Here we go again...

Wow... that would be funny, if I didn't have friends & people I admire still employed at Clear Channel (for now)... How these guys think they can make more money by making radio less interesting is beyond me.

I could rant about needing to avoid making the internet, movies & video games more interesting than your programming, but for now I'll just say my thoughts and prayers are with all our brothers (& sisters) still fighting the good fight at Clear Channel, especially Clear Channel Tulsa & Clear Channel OKC.
 
I just hope Bill Hurley's hard work at straightening up OKC isn't disrupted by the corporate beancounters. OKC isn't broken so let's hope it doesn't get "fixed".
 
Maybe I'm too idealistic, but wouldn't CC's small and medium market competitors be able to capitalize on the non-local approach they look to be moving to? Don't care what business it is...selling is still about being face to face with a local decision maker. If you're doing a good job at what you do and have a relationship with your customer, you ought to, over time, be able to get them to realize that more dollars they spend with you stay in the local economy. "We" put people to work and buy stuff right here. Sounds a bit corny, but in smaller towns...might have some legs, especially in times like now. Then, naturally, be sure you're doing a good job of servicing audience and advertisers. Or doesn't local commitment matter anywhere anymore?
 
CC use to be a great company. Not so today. The Tulsa stations are hanging by a thread in a building six times the size they need. The only viable properties are KMOD and KTBT. KQLL is in the tank. KIZS is a format the local operators don't understand and can't push forward. KTBZ has more in operator overhead than billing, and KAKC, well who cares. Not them Top that off with a dual market VP/GM, now they will have limiting local decision making ability in programming all sold by a sales department with dramitic turnover and only a hand full of professional sellers. Tough days ahead for CC Tulsa, sorry to see it. KMOD use to be the crown jewel in Tulsa radio. Now it's just another rock format station. Brent and Phil the killer morning team have even been on autopilot for the past ten years. Not much left, the clock is ticking.
