Herman Cain/WSB

Hey Herman!!! We get it, you hate Obama. You also lost your bid to be president and your rant it old and tiring. Boy what a poor selection to replace Boortz. Eric Erickson would be much better. He's actually enjoyable and level headed to listen too.

I personally predict that Herman will not be able to keep the syndicated network together. I suppose WSB was thinking everyone now knows who Herman is; he's become notorious. Let's capitalize on that. And of course, Boortz likes him.

But I also feel Erick Erickson would have been a better choice for the Boortz slot. Of course, nobody is born with the name Erick Erickson. Harry Harrison? Maybe.

I sent out a survey of seven national talkers to 600 listeners and asked for favorites in order. To my surprise, Herman was very near the top. Higher than Hannity and Rush. And this in geographic areas where Rush is God. We're going to run Herman live on our biggest FM and I predict we'll sell him pretty well.

BTW...Even if you put Cain on 98.5 with some frequency swaps you may be planning I don't think will help him. I do enjoy Eric and Adam at night now just give us Coast to Coast overnights WSB.

I am really thinking (hoping) that Herman is to Neal what Ron Zook was to Steve Spurrier and Ray Goff was to Vince Dooley -- a place holder following a legend. It is a daunting task to take over for someone with a history as storied as Boortz, and WSB is probably wise to drop a safe choice like Herman in the slot -- knowing that it will only be for a few years at most, given the fact that Cain is older than Boortz. This will minimize the the direct comparisons to Neal and make an easier road for the ultimate long-term replacement.

I just turned on the show to listen to Jamie Dupree at 11:00 and had to turn it off when Herman started shouting at me at 11:25. I really hope he decides to run against Saxby for Senate, so he can bow out gracefully and soon.

The decision to put Cain on both locally and on the network is a well-intentioned mistake. In the heat of the primaries, it sounded like a neato concept, but he simply doesn't have the goods to do it. He's not intelligent enough, he doesn't have enough to say that you can't hear on a million other shows, and frankly, he's got one trick. We've heard it. What else ya got?

Everybody knows it, nobody's saying it out loud. The syndicated numbers (which have already dropped after Boortz announced his retirement) will drop further after Cain takes over. I give him a year.

The easy answer locally, to me, would be to say 'oops, sorry, we made a mistake', put the thoroughly-steamed Clark Howard's syndicated show from the previous day on 9-Noon, and leave the rest of the schedule intact. Or, if you must, air Cain somewhere in that jumbled night schedule. That may even be the contingency plan, who knows.

Wow! Havent heard the name Harry Harrison in years! I lived in NYC back in the 60s and 70s. Morning man on 77 WABC!! The best!!

Herman Cains saving grace in all this just may be Boortz himself...he may be retiring, but he is not going away.

He mentions that he will do occasional call-ins and commentaries. In fact, I heard him recently, while talking to HC, that he looks forward to filling in for HC when he is on vacation...

No doubt the two are good friends, and I believe when the ratings head for the skids, WSB will call NB when needed.

If "we aren't stupid", then why does HC not sound very intelligent. Neal comes across as someone who has the intellect to speak on a variety of subjects. I just do not get that vibe with listening to HC.

The other reason I listen to Herman is because I like to hear Him say "Guv-a-mint".

Careful trusty. I made a comment like that and got called "racist' on this Board. :-\

Noted. However, I don't have time for racism, but I do have time for irony, and I find it funny that HC is replacing "Mighty Whitey". :D

Herman has six months, tops. Already they've taken 8:30 to 9:00 back for news while Boortz is away and I bet that's going to be the norm going forward. The news department is not going to stand by and watch their audience evaporate toward 9am. Herman's overall issue is that he doesn't want to be on radio badly enough to mold his product to anything other than what he wants to do. It's almost like he's got a script and he's sticking to it. Here is today's one topic: (fill in the blank).

Compare to Boortz who is known for taking different tangents with nearly every caller or every other thing he says, half of which are specifically aimed to find somebody's cage and rattle it. It keeps the show alive. Ratings will decide if that's what people want to hear versus Herman's version. And I believe the surveys about Herman. Just like surveys and taste tests about cola wars, Herman is the radio talker you think you want to listen to but when it comes time to put the stuff in your cart and buy it, you buy the one you always buy.

Erickson's not awful but he seems to have bigger aims than to just be a radio host. Will he or can he settle for radio? I don't think so.

Goldfein has a decent delivery. So does Mark Arum. Instead of just putting him on when the guano hits the fan (ice storms, mass shootings, etc etc), I'd love to see Arum take a run at a dedicated show.

I heard, and believe it was Boortz himself, who mentioned a rumor that HC is contemplating a run at the Senate...try to take
a stab and run against Saxby Chambliss in 2 years. If so, that means a yr on radio and a yr to campaign...so, if true, who is using who here?

HC using WSB for another political boost, or WSB using HC until better rolls in...could be an interesting 2013

Don't you think that if Herman tries a run at any political office the same "infidelity" rumor mill will come back and shut him down again? ???
