If you see Micki, ask her if she remembers Bette Dixon. She and Micki were friends and Bette was my boss. WVMX was the follow-up at WRFK when public radio moved to 101.1. It stated as HOt AC and moved to CHR and even had Bob-A-Lou for awhile. They were called MIX-106 and appearantly scared EZ-104 into giving up an excellent AC format to go to hot AC as WMXB. As we all know, 103.7 never recovered and was solidly beaten by Lite 98 who simply picked up the format that EZ-104 abandoned out of fear of the short lived Mix-106. MIx then became Oldies 106 and then the WVGO that lives on in legend and verse.

Mix 106 I recall... but oddly enough not the call sign.

Stations I've come very close to working with and/or running
but didn't... WZZR [I followed before they even had a CP,
even calculating where the tower was going to be placed...
The Engineer in me coming out lol but I'm not an Engineer...
I could be],'82 WODI in Brookneal, Va.[my parents are from
that area]Came very close to buying, just a little to late.
Someone else bought her. In '88, began talking to a satellite
uplink service company... about syndicating a radio show.
____ ____. The provider relocated his business to
another state. WSVS [was looking into just
before she was bought by K95 becoming WKIK The BEAR],
WDCK (aka WQSF or WBCI)[I followed just before and as it was
being relocated to Quinton, Va.], WMXB ['91-ish was almost
hired by Bill Bevins...
he said, "I'd love to hire you Lou... but looks like I need
a job too! They let me go!"].
WCLM [The original format I suggested to them was close
to but an even broader variety w/personality than what
Liberty 98.9 offers now...this was... In'94! A lot like
what Jason and I did on WENZ back in '86! Even adding
my friends Eric E. Stanley and Chocolate Chip Johnston
into the DJ line up. They said it was too experimental...!
They decided on R&B Oldies... they still didn't want a couple
of the most gifted talented DJ's Richmond had to offer...
and were available!!! They finally went on line mid-April'96
The image slogan "Heart & Soul of Richmond"
was the image I gave it! That image has remained for nearly
ten years! [Yet,I'm told my services weren't need anymore...
Like I don't know anything about programming or
radio... _________]
You can fill in the blank... The only theme they can muster
is... "The New" Nothing's changed... What's so freakin
new about it! [again, you fill in the blank]
WLSA, Was about to cut LMA deal with owner, my business
associate and I looked inside...well needless to say...
Fred Sanford would have had a field day... JUNK!
"I'm Coming home Elizabeth... I'm coming to be widcha honey!".
The only thing of value was the land and frequency 105.5FM
same frequency as WRAR in Tappahanock, Va. About 18 months
later a deal cut with Main Quad and Piedmont Communications
[Culpeper] and one other...Joyner[NC], some frequency movenment.
WLSA was bought an given new calls... That movement
changed the spectrum creating the opening of 98.9FM.
So... If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all.
Gloom despair and agony on me!
BR549 Junior Samples Used Car Sales. lol
I'll ask Micki the next time I see her... want more just e-mail me
[email protected] Thanks for inquiring Oldiesgal!
