Does this flip mean we'll get all 3 hours of Lionel? I sure hope so.

WLW ran a promo on the switch Tuesday night that said something like "we wouldn't have had to do this if more of you liberals had listened!"

Maybe if Clear Channel actually put a little effort into the station, then it would have fared better.

As I said before, you can't expect people not to tune away when your automation system goes crazy and starts running two or three things at the same time, on a frequent basis.

CC just dumped the station in a spare closet and tried to pass off Springer as a local show. I'd expect at least a little bit better from a company like Clear Channel.

And they wonder why there was tune-out.

I'm so tired of hearing how Clear Channel is at fault for the small audience on WCKY. They put it on a huge signal, unlike other companies who put it on a hair dryer. Rather than just put up the bird and AAR, they tried to cultivate someone with immediate name recognition, albeit one known for idiot reasons. In his hometown, he's known for more and the thought was that as others heard him, they'd quickly see he is an intelligent, multi-dimensional person. They used several successful programmers, many with a personal left-wing political bent to coach Jerry. They spent no less on WCKY than they have on Mix, Kiss, Homer, 55KRC, and the Fox. While we're at it, how much do they spend on WLW or WEBN?

Ask your liberal friends if they've listened to it. Every time I ask, I get the same answer: no. They say they don't listen to the radio at all, only listen to NPR, or tried it and hated it. When I ask why they didn't like it, they said the hosts are too mad and while they agree with much of the opinion, they don't want to hear it ad-nauseum. When prompted, they realized they wished the hosts sounded like they were having more fun. Some had hoped for more guests, like when Franken has Conason or Oliphant, but those guests didn't cause them to listen any more either.

What was Clear Channel supposed to have done that the others are doing to make it so successful on their sticks? Oh yeah, it ain't working there either. Maybe it isn't so much the company that owns it as it is a lack of programming that appeals to an audience willing to listen. At least Clear Channel tried something different in Jerry.

This is an excellent post, Arbitorn. Very well said. I must note that in an earlier post when I said the format was poorly executed, I was referring more to the numerous technical glitches. I do think that 24 hours of syndicated programming on a 50,000 watt stick is a waste though. But you are right. Clear Channel did try it with Springer who has the local ties and they did some huge billboards early on. Most libs I know don't listen either. As you said, they tend to not like the angry, hateful approach of most libtalk radio. They lean more toward NPR. And as I always say, there's no shortage of liberal bias and opinion out there in the mainstream. Left-wingers pretty much have their views validated just about everywhere else, from sitcoms and hollywood tripe to the network evening newscasts and everything in between.
