Wow...first iPartyradio.com, now hitzradio.com. :-\ Doesn't SoundExchange realize we are not making any profit out of this and trying our best to fill format holes?
No because all SoundEXTORTION sees is NOTHING BUT $$$ going out the door (Even if the $$$ aren't even theirs to begin with!)

Heck, they're even trying to collect royalties FOR DEAD PEOPLE now. It's only a matter of time before they start charging royalties to every Internet Radio station carrying Jack Benny shows (And those shows are PUBLIC DOMAIN now!).

It's coming people. Just wait. The RIAA & SoundEXTORTION will find a way to make a profit from those old shows (If they don't BUY their own way first like they did in getting the DMCA into the law books of this country  ).

Cheers :D

Something I have always wondered is how do large broadcasters like 181.FM even begin to pay royalties? They have some commercials, but I cannot see that being nearly enough. They don't play many commercials, and they do not play any commercials on some of their smaller stations. They also must have fairly high streaming costs and other expenses. I simply cannot see that they will last very long under the ever increasing royalty rates.

With a dedicated/VPS ShoutCAST server, I'm sure the actual server part of streaming isn't costly at all. The few commercials are hooked up to TargetSpot I believe, which in turn is VERY profitable if you're willing to pay the $300 for the AndoMedia Ad Insertion software.

For several years I was the voice of HitzRadio. It is always disappointing to see fellow internet broadcasters disappearing. The unfortunate reality in this current climate of online broadcasting seems to favor more places closing down.
