I'm guessing this means that WZRR is the only rock station left in the market that isn't run by a college. Apparently, if you want to kill off (modern) rock, you do it with talk.

Therein lies the reason why lesser formats like adult alternative and smooth jazz are falling quickly by the wayside. The few people who listened before are listening to their mp3 players and online streaming. They are abandoning music radio in droves.
My prediction is that we'll see a major shakeup of formats on the radio in medium and larger markets in the coming years. As I am going to get into on my website, the future of FM is talk and sports, the future of AM is certain death. It all comes down to cost.
Not only did the format not bring the ratings, the marginal signal didn't help, either. I don't really see it helping WAPI that much unless it can get moved into Birmingham proper, but as a cost-saving measure, the flip should have happened two years ago.

Those of us who listened to it (I will admit i try in the car but the signal was too weak up here - Cullman) ; we listen because we are SICK of the same 4 songs on the other stations. I believe the demographic of most any AAA station will be the more intelligent of folk and the folk who aren't reachable easily via traditional methods (read - standard home telephone).
We're the ones who are sophisticated - who DO communciate better over facebook than at home. And i think ya'll are wrong - people aren't complaining on the facebook page - they're rallying around what they're about to lose - like the cows at the slaughterhouse would if they could think
Yes...I'm one of them....but that is because i think everyone should have a chance to enjoy this kind of music. I've been a fan of AAA for years.
(since i discovered it on 92 zew in mobile...which i believe also was killed and revived by its listeners)
Once again, thank goodness this is America. We all have our voice....and we all have capitolism to kill off corporate radio![]()

P.S. To Passtheword, love your web site. I enjoyed it very much.

I don't think a new (modern) rock station will be created to replace Live. More likely, some stations will tweak their playlists to gain Live's audience and that'll be it.
