Holiday Format Switch

Now that it's late October, which Valley station will switch to a Holiday Music format first? Can we expect the usual players (KSOF, KJWL, KABX) to go Holiday Music sometime in November? My guess would be KSOF first on November 1st at 12:01 am.

Any other guesses?

Well that's a good point, I was originally just thinking Christmas music, but some stations do play Halloween themed sounds/music as well, so I guess either counts

What no Thanksgiving songs, like I don't know maybe Harvest Moon, but I know KOJY 98.9 will be November 1.

You'll need two radios, one tuned to 99.3 and the other to 98.9 to know for sure. Wouldn't surprise me if they both did. Keep an eye on KYNO, didn't they do classic christmas last year?

Now here's the possible twist: 105.5 goes at 11:59 October 31, and KJWL never does. This only happens if One Putt wants to give up on Rewind.

KABX will for sure.

THE Thanksgiving song - actually a 18 minutes story tune - is Arlo Guthrie's 'Alice' Restaurant'. Many stations will give it a well-promo'd spin at least once on Thanksgiving Day. I'm sure there are stations somewhere that have played it every year since it's release cir. 1967. I know KOZT, Mendocino, has played it every year since the station first went on the air 25-30 years ago. Great local owned/live programmed station that KOZT, especially considering it's a small market.

yelp. Guess I struck out.

I sure one of them will, just thought it would be Nov 1. Maybe after election.

I guess They all finally realized that Nov. 1 is to early, or maybe they are waiting for the time change this weekend or the first Monday in Nov.

I forgot to include one South Valley station that apparently already made the switch, MY 97.5 (K248BX-FM 97.5 and KVMI-AM 1270). Seeing as though in Fresno we only get KABX Merced on 97.5, I forgot to check 1270 to see what Visalia/Tulare/Hanford might be hearing as well, and today, it was all Christmas music.

Gee. Didn't I post on Nov. 1 that My 97.5 went all Christmas just after mid-night on NOV. 1 ?

OK 1270 Visalia and 97.5 - My 97.5 translator were the First local / area stations to broadcast all Christmas music. Winner !

No -wait a minute. Looser !! Someone lost their mind at the car lot and dropped a money making format for all Christmas music, before the holidays even start, to make everyone hate the station.

MisterGort you were indeed the first one to point out that My 97.5 went all Christmas so thats a win for you! :)

After looking at this thread again, I realized I had left out that station in my original post so thank you for posting where I omitted it.

KDUV 88.9 Visalia goes all Christmas as well so curious when they will make the switch too.

Any radio station that starts broadcasting "Christmas or Holiday" music before Thanksgiving and goes "All Christmas music" except for Christmas eve and Christmas day should have their FCC licenses taken away from them for being the worst kind of business operator. No brains what so ever.

A little bit of sugar might be good on a bowl of cereal or in your morning coffee. A bowl or cup FULL of sugar will only kill you. It will NOT taste better. Stations that Jump on the All Christmas band wagon only end up driving radio ad buyers over the side of a cliff No one is listening to the sound of a band wagon crashing at the bottom of the Grand Canyon.

Tell that to the stations like WBEB and KOST that get double digit shares for the whole season. The audience data shows that there is increased listening from Day One onwards.

And ad buyers looking for the best seasonal outlet to reach adult women shovel out money to the all-Christmas stations.
