I aquired one of these recently and its absent the power supply and manual. I was hoping someone might have the info I need to get another PS and also a PDF version of the manual since Hollyanne does not appear to answer their phone anymore.

Actually this was the only unit on ebay go for less than $300 in the last 6 months...

With Ebay, you "get what you pay for", literally.

So out of all the engineers on this board no one has one of these units and knows the PS specs or has a manual ?

Even if you got the information, it wouldn't do you much good. The HU-961 has been discontinued for some time now. There is no factory support available for it. Even if you could get it to work, it probably doesn't support the newer alert codes (Amber Alert, etc.) unless it had the eeprom upgrade installed before Hollyanne discontinued support in 2005. You need the optional program interrupt unit for getting the EAS audio on the air and you need a serial printer (hard to find) to print the EAS alerts. On top of all that, to program all the necessary FIPS codes, alert codes, etc., you have to have the Hollyanne software (DOS-based) which is also not available.

What J. Boyd and I are trying to tell you is it isn't worth fixing. Sorry to sound so negative, but if you're looking for a functioning EAS unit, the HU-961 isn't it.

Can you say BOAT ANCHOR...need to save up some bucks.check out the trilithic encoder/decoder.very nice...never a problem with mine.other brands like gorman ,tft, etc, but i sure like my unit.Eas is in a state of flux and more changes will come.Have to stay with the latest.Sorry but i think you wasted your money on this.

that unithas been out of production sinse 2005. You can still get information and the programming software from the Hollyanne web site. www.eas-hollyanne.com. A standard 9 pin cable with male on one end and female on the other end will work for programming. The power supply is just a 12 volt DC wall wart. The center pin on the power plug is positve. I have several of these in service. Be sure to put it on a UPS as power glitches give mine fits.

AND, now the feds say thay have a new improved, version. Which means that in the near future, we will have to invest in a new, "improved" system..which will be mandated! Where does it end?. This , to be repetitive, is "sad"...such is the animal...Peace,,,JBI. Thanks but no thanks...

amber retro fit is 150.00 for this unit.plus 75 bucks if they do it.like pouring water on a grease fire.the NEW EAS wii be on the way and you will have wasted more money.like JBI says more fun on the way. These newer EAS unit will be (are)software(code)driven just like todays audio processors. But to each his own and good luck with this venture. It's just a Band aid.....IMHO

call Hollyanne 1 308 428 4705.they may be able to help you.It just needs to work for you. When the FCC comes knocking, first thing on the list is EAS and you better have a log and be able to do a test.I think most of the opinion here is the unit is outdated, support may be an issue and they don't want you to throw money in it, WHEN EAS changes and it's on the Horizon, trust us..good luck..

OK so I am curious... What kind of changes are coming for EAS? I've never heard a thing about it, until I read this thread.

The FCC has released details of its EAS review on which it voted in May.
The order requires EAS participants to accept messages using Common Alerting Protocol after FEMA adopts standards. CAP involves the transmission of EAS alerts as text, audio and video via broadcast, cable, satellite and other networks.

Part of the intent is to make it easier for the disabled and non-English speakers to receive alerts.

As part of its review of EAS, the commission seeks comment on how best to deliver alerts as well as broader emergency and public safety information to these groups. The agency also seeks input on how EAS is or isn’t working and whether additional testing, station certification and assessments of how well the system works after an EAS warning has been triggered.

Comments to EB Docket No. 04-296 are due 30 days after the Further Notice of Rulemaking is published in the Federal Register.

AND...You can go the the FCC home page, and scroll down the FCC actions, and there is a link to the 43 page document. It is FCC-07-109A1.Doc if you want to Search for it on the FCC site.
Regardless, this is going to mean more $$, more equipment and generally more hassels. Does not bode well....Thanks JBI

This might be a good time to complain how the LP1 EAS station in Dallas, uses different header codes for weather alerts that are first issued by NOAA, which results in the double-airing of the same weather alert on the participating station’s part.

Robert there are very few co-operating stations that will respond to your complaints, suggestions, etc. Most of us are falling short in one respect or another, and many don't have a clue. To further complicate an already convoluted
system is a sin. It will simply add more violations in the Commission's fine
booklet. I don't have the answer, but who does. Conelrad failed, EBS failed, and now EAS. (Reference to Conelrad dates me...sigh) Thanks JBI

Well I meant complain to the FCC. ;) Let them deal with it. Of course we know that is unlikely. Oh well... :(
