Homeland Security Ads on KNX

I haven't seen any posts on this subject; am I late? Every time I hear Kristi Noem warning me that "we are coming for you; turn yourself in and self-deport" I cringe. I don't think many of the actual people these ads are targeting listen to KNX. All it does is remind me of the cruelty of the situation; that might be the point. Are these spots airing on any of the Spanish stations in town?

DHS is running a "blast" campaign across both radio and television, and those spots are running on a lot of stations and inside programming that seems to be outside the target demo.

It runs at least once per afternoon on ABC7 Eyewitness News, for example.

I tend to shout things like "don't you have better things to do ... like shooting dogs?" when I see her appear on the screen. So yes, definitely cringeworthy.

And these are paid announcements, funded by our tax dollars. Yet we can defund CPB ...?

Here we go again it's gotta be Audacy running those PSA's because they don't want to be hit with an FCC threat in the same way their San Francisco All News affiliate KCBS/KFRC-FM was hit when they covered this very issue.

They are not PSAs. They are paid commercials.

Not all undocumented people are Spanish-only speakers. South Asians, Europeans, Africans, etc. may be able to understand the announcements or the word gets filtered down to their circles. Of course, many "visitors" to our country just stream their own countries' radio programs via the Internet. I frequently observe that situation especially when taking taxis in major metro areas.

I heard it on NYC's iHeart-owned "Lite FM" (WLTW). The ad promises that those who self-deport may be able to legally re-enter the U.S., but also asks them to fill out a form and register with the government before leaving... which seems like a perfect way to keep track of those who won't be allowed back in.

It also warns "criminal aliens" to not try to enter the country illegally... how many criminals in Guatemala or Honduras are listening to American radio stations playing Adele and Taylor Swift?

You can come back in by buying citizenship from Donald Trump for $5 million. I think this is intimidation for those who might know someone undocumented. "Have you rattted out your neighbor?

And yet, are they going after any of the...non-brown undocumented people who, say, overstay their visas? White people from Canada or Europe, or Australia (or South Africa), perhaps? We don't hear KN threatening *them* all that much. Cannot believe they're taking advantage of broadcast media's need for cash and these stations are RUNNING these ads! (Guess we can believe it, actually. Ugh.) Meanwhile, the Latinos fleeing wartorn countries south of the U.S. are NOT the problem. It's the j1hadists who have been coming here and giving birth here for citizenship, for 50 years.

The administration has all but promised the ethnic cleansing of L.A.

I have to wonder if the ads aren’t really intended to be “proof of performance” messages to Trump’s MAGA base. Maybe reaching immigrants is secondary.
The ads are red meat for the MAGA base. Reaching immigrants is irrelevant.

Here in Houston I first heard these spots in early May on a Classic Rock station. They were running once an hour. Urban One is the station owner.

Perhaps any spot featuring Kristi Noem should be followed by a PSA for the ASPCA or local animal shelter.

Actually, even the ASPCA has been running paid announcements (or perhaps PI/DR) as well. They have been doing so for well over a decade now ... and the same one seems to run every night on H&I during all five hours of the Star Trek block.

Very astute observation! I wish stations such as KIIS-FM and KNX-A/F would front announce some kind of disclaimer, due to the heavy political overtones of this paid content, notwithstanding the paid nature of the "ads". Would stations not have this privilege or even right?

What "wartorn" countries are those?

This is for those who complain that commercial radio stations don't receive any federal funding. They do. Lots of it. From numerous agencies in the federal government. All those drunk driving spots are paid for by taxpayers. The total amount adds up to billions of dollars.
Those AdCouncil drunk driving spots are PSAs, and not paid.
