Honeymooners missing from WGN America

More changes on Sunday night: Cheers is now on at 11 PM ET, Bewitched and I Dream of Jeannie have been pushed back an hour each, and in looking at the listings of shows on WGN America's website at http://www.wgnamerica.com/pages/programming it appears that The Honeymooners and The Beverly Hillbillies are both gone now.

The retro programming on Sunday nights has been around for about a year now, so I guess it's time for a few changes, and I like their getting Barney Miller and Cheers on Sunday nights, but I don't like seeing the Honeymooners being dropped in the process. :(

WGN America made an announcement earlier in the summer that the Beverley Hillbillies would return in the fall. I took took it to mean weekdays 8-9 AM. I don't know about the Honeymooners but let's face it 39 episodes burn off real quick. I'am glad to see Barny Miller and Cheers back, too.
BTW, I tried to record Corner Gas last week and just got some stupid reality show. The listings did say Corner Gas would be on Wednesday at 4:30 AM.

If you're noticing WGN America's retro lineup, they're bringing back shows that once aired on their lineups before (at least when the Chicago and National feeds were one in the same). There's Barney Miller, Cheers, Newhart, The Honeymooners, and WKRP. At this pace, maybe they'll add The Dick Van Dyke Show, Soap, Benson, and The Love Boat...those among other old shows that WGN Chicago/Superstation once carried.

I'm glad to see "Barney Miller" in the lineup. It's one show I vaguely remember from childhood, both on ABC and in syndication in the mid-80s(my grandparents watched it a lot), and it seems like any run in syndication or on cable since about 1990 was far too short for me to really get into the show. I hope WGN will stick with it a while; might take about three years to get through the whole series!
A local affiliate in my area ( 'TV 20' in San Francisco) has also been doing a 'Retro Sunday Night' lineup, doing viewer polls to determine which series airs in that slot every week; apparently, 'Barney' beat 'Barnaby'(Jones) in last week's poll, and so the station aired the first four episodes of 'Miller' back to back.

What a novel idea, airing shows that people want to see.

Perhaps it's time to add a second retro night on Saturday nights? :)

I hope they keep Newhart long enough to get to the final episode again. I tried to record that during the Thanksgiving marathon and missed it. :-\

They should add The Mary Tyler Moore Show along with Bob Newhart. Also they need to show the black and white episodes of Bewitched since they're also showing the black and white episodes of I Dream Of Jeannie.

I remember reading someplace that the B/W "Bewitched" episodes were pulled from syndication a while back because it was felt that viewers- especially the younger ones- just didn't want to deal with black and white- which also helps to explain why so many other top rate 60s shows are virtually forgotten.

OTOH, "Jeannie" B/W episodes are still around probably to make sure there is a sufficient number for syndication- there weren't as many of them in the first place. Personally I applaud this...I always thought that the best of "Jeannie" were the first season, when it was all fresh and new, as they recycled ideas more and more through the run of the show- I personally think that show should have been laid to rest before "Tony" and "Jeannie" got married...

I also like the B/W Jeannies because of the theme...Hugo Montenegro did a nice job in the subsequent seasons, but I liked the theme from the first season (done by Richard? Wess) much better.

The B&W episodes of "My Three Sons" were ignored for many years until Nick at Nite picked them up for awhile in the 80s.

The first 2 Black and White seasons (1963-65) of Petticoat Junction have been released "officially" by CBS..after The "Ultimate" PJ collection put out by Paul Henning in 2005, consisting of 20 first-season episodes ..

Got it, Love it! :)

Soap (in order) would be fun to see aired again...even throwing Mary hartman on at 3 in the morning would be interesting!

While I was watching Star Trek: The Next Generation last night on WGN America there was an ad for a Honeymooners marathon for Sunday night. So either The Honeymooners is just temporarily off the regular schedule, or WGN's rights to carry it ends on Sept. 1 and they're running it one last time. I just hope it's the former and not the latter.
