Honoring The Past; Looking To The Future

Lets also honor the current radio discussions design by honoring local TV Stations that previously used New Zelek Font. KBSC Los Angeles now known as Telemundo affiliate KVEA-TV Los Angeles used the New Zelek font from 1977-early 1980's. This was the time that KBSC had an affiliation with ONTV.

KVEA/Other

Here was their station ID from that time.

I'm not sure how the font was used on television stations in the 1970s, when the designer created it in 1993 based on artwork from 1979. Also that's not even the font used in the logo. We're using a similar one called "Slant" simply because that's what I had when I made the original Radio-Info logo in 1999.

And please do not hijack this thread with TV station usage that had nothing to do with how and why the new logo was implemented.

Now I see what you mean with the slant font. And congrats to a new era!

While I tend to keep quiet, as I am not a radio or television person, I do visit both sites. The honor and respect displayed between professionals is perfectly lovely. It is the way I was always accustomed to conducting business in my own career, so I hold that in a spirit of genuine goodwill without putting on a nice act with daggers beneath. Congratulations, Lance, after the hard as nails legal hardball you put up with. Thank you, David Eduardo, it is also good that you came on board when you did. Heartache for you both, and you have come through.

ive been with this sight since whatever iteration existed when i was in high school in 2001-2

God i feel old.. get off my not frozen tundra:)

I wonder who holds the record for being tossed out and let back in? LOL :)

Im trying to behave these days, mostly

Lance, David, and the whole team...

Having been around for about 20 years now, all I can say is:
THANK YOU for what you've already done.
THANK YOU for what you're doing now.
And THANK YOU for what you will do in the future.

Probably the poster from Philadelphia who would constantly make racist posts, yet somehow would find their way back in. Or did until a couple months ago :)

I thought id be up there a bit... I was tossed twice under Zeo/Scott. .and ive been tossed twice from the current form. Think i was tossed once under mamma flemming.

HEy, i was young dumb and stupid back then. im only slightly older now.

Based on the admin settings, I was under the impression the dark theme was disabled.
I manually switched to the default and it works (hopefully this is not something that everyone on dark mode has to do and can be overridden). It is a very nice redesign, btw, and immediately makes me think of RadioInsight. 🙂

Thanks for the comprehensive history outline. The logo redesign is fantastic, especially with the nod to former radio sites.

Just went to the wayback machine to remind myself of the early incarnations of radio-info. It's been a lot of fun posting on these radio sites for the last 20+ years.

Before the digital era I asked someone, "why radio when you can hear whatever you want by listening to [in those days] tapes or CDs."

They replied, "the element of surprise."

Here in 2024 there are still some commercial FM radio stations out there in every format surprising even music nerds with good music.

This site is a testament to the spirit of radio. I'm glad it's still here.

It's still accessible through the theme setting in the page footer, at least for me (while logged out, and also while logged in).
I can switch between the Default and the Dark Theme on the fly. The Default has the new logo and the Dark still has the old.

By the way, we're coming up to the 21st anniversary of the launch of the redesign of the old site or Version 2.0 as it was called. I thought it was a great design.

This occurs both on my phone and my laptop. Running Firefox on both.

I'm probably in contention for that dubious honor.
  1. Got thrown out with the rest of the Radio-Info moderators and administrators when Diana Fleming took over.
  2. Reinstated by Boz when Streamline bought the message board (but not the domain name). Tossed out again within a year or so when a bunch of people who were still holding a grudge against me as an R-I moderator organized a campaign to complain pretty much every time I blinked. Boz and I agreed to suspend my account.
  3. Frank reinstated me when he bought the site. It didn't take long for one person (who apparently has plenty of animosity left) to complain about me. I agreed to leave again.
  4. A few years later there was a rash of incorrect "facts" which David and Frank thought I would be best positioned to respond to. Back I came, only to have that same person claim that I was too "harsh" with my corrections. For whatever reason, Frank didn't want to hear about my history with that individual (in fact, he told me point blank that said person had claimed "there was no animosity" and Frank believed him), and suspended me. At that point, I'd had enough and asked for the suspension to be permanent.
  5. And then Lance, David and Scott decided to bring me back yet again a month ago, although there still have been a few rough spots in my return, since all this coming and going has wrought havoc with my internal filters on what I can and can't say around here!
