You must be one of those "out of town owners" that we always hear about.

The Louisville stations ranked # 1, 2, 4, and 5 are there. #3 has a satellite morning show. (Winter Arb, 12+)

Oh, yeah. Pull the "carpet-bagger" defense. Sorry, life-long IN-KY resident. And, you can be topical and *into* the Derby without giving up most of your brand at critical times for a week or two. This "it's the way it's always been done" mentality is what's KILLING radio.

And, those shows are not ranked the way they are because they show up @ Churchill Downs and do Derby stuff for 5 straight days.

What do you mean declined to this Greg?

3 stations doing Derby coverage is a definite decline over past years. But I should have known not to speak so soon on Monday of Derby Week. Today is lots better- DJX and AMZ are in their tents, and the Max is in thier spot in the hall of the Media Center.

WFPL also broadcasts from the press box on Tues-Fri. That's the sweetest gig of all. You are not up at 3am, if it rains you are inside and they feed you up there! Still, that's only six. But you have to think how many stations have a live morning show anymore?

Yes, that's what it's all about, staying dry and being fed. I guess that does have the listener first in mind. ;) I also believe some music stations' shows are there simply so they feel like big shots, like they're more important for a week. I still question what there is for the audience on those stations (that they can't get from stations who SPECIALIZE in such event broadcasting).

I see you have never pulled cable at 4am in the pouring rain and 45 degrees.

LOL, and a fried Snickers!

re: the gold pin... a friend bought it at a Thornton's
re: Ehrler's: the milkshake would be nice but who got custody of their hot air balloon, the "Udder Delight"?

As for radio who, besides WHAS, is worth listening to on the way in?

Thanks,
Tom

for sheer deja vu...try 103.5 when you're about 20 miles south of E-town...
not the real WAKY, but the jingles are cool

if you want something kinda quirky and different (that you probably wouldnt' hear wherever you're from) but pretty good, try WLUE at 100.5. It's a non-jack *Jack* but it sure seems to work. Obviously WHAS is always at the top of their game during events like this (and their signal covers everywhere).

Indydood louie fm that is quite the stretch calling them quirky and different. The jack fm's yes but louie is the same old same old.

perhaps to YOU, patrick but not to louisville radio listeners. they do remarkably well, consistently.

I know they do well but they aren't anything out of the ordinary is my point. All i'm sayin but hey indydood at least you agree with me on the lack of liberal talk in louisville and how there is a need. Did you ever here mike ward on 1080? Radio just not his calling i think.

Thanks for the tips and the critiques: I'll add "Louie" to my pre-sets and always catch some of E'town's WAKY on the way in and out of town. But what I was hoping to see on here were names of local jocks and/ or teams who do good work or are unique in their style. Can you give me something candid, honest & positive about any of the talent across the Louisville dial? AM or FM, a.m or p.m....Who do you guys like/ respect between the songs or out at the Downs?

and could someone give me the dial position of the NPR station you keep writing about?

WFPK is at 91.9 FM.

IMHO catch Terry Meiners on 840 WHAS afternoons (starts @ 3, I think). Market legend, really good.
