HOT 104.3 vs. 104.9 The Beat

The only CLASSIC you are gonna mainly hear on FMX is PRIEST, Hendrix, Doors, Led, Sabbath, ACDC, Maiden & ZZ TOP. However, it depends on what you consider CLASSIC. Personally, I see HENDRIX, LED, DOORS etc... CLASSIC ROCK. But many also include ACDC, SABBATH. Everyone once in a while you will hear the random track from RUSH, B.O.C. and some other randoms. Of course, the reasons why you are hearing those tracks/bands on FMX is because they are proven staples of ACTIVE ROCK. The reason you are not hearing maybe as much CLASSIC on KBAT is because their plan of FORMAT is different. They play the TOP 40 tracks and they wrap it with Hairband/COCKROCK tracks. I am not making this up. I know this for fact to be there methedology. It's one of the only stations in the company to do a ROCK station that way. So, if you want FMX to be like KBAT, then you are wanting FMX to stop with the CLASSIC and BRING ON the Hairband/COCKROCK. I'm sorry, but you are. I would rather have classic rock mixed with my TOP 40 tracks and my harder tracks... then a station that is TOP 40 with Hairband/COCKROCK mix in... any day! Hairband/COCKROCK crap makes me sick.

I know the original topic was about KSTQ & KBTE btu since we are kind of all over the place talking about KZII and rock stations, I would like to bring up KFMX.

I feel that FMX plays WAY TOO MUCH classic rock. I think they should tweak their format and let KONE play all the classic rock. I am a big fan of KBAT out of Midland and listen in when tropo brings it in to Lubbock.

KBAT plays SOME classic rock but they don't overdue it like FMX.

...I wish FMX would sound more like KBAT...

I agree. I like 101.1, but I think what they play is more Classic Hits than Classic Rock. When Mix was doing the 80s weekends, there were times when 101.1 and 100.3 were playing EXACTLY the same song within minutes of each other!

I don't need to "check" myself. You replied to my my post, and did not address yourself otherwise.

That said, your comment that rhythnic ac "is not that great of a format" is still not a logical statement, because you did not back it up.
Why is it "not that great of a format?"
Do you mean it is not successful, or that you just don't care for it?
Do you mean nobody wants to hear it? Based on what data? If it is just a bunch your friends, that's not good enough.

You may like the Urban formats on 104.3 and 104.9, and that's fine, you are certainly welcome to, and do know I respect that. But don't expect everyone to want that jammed down their throat. That is two frequencies that are being taken up plus 102.5 which also plays a heavy dose, and (unless someone presents real hard data to suggest otherwise) I am willing to bet that by the end of the year one of those will flip.

Do you look at Arbitron? If so, have you looked at the numbers for KMVN in L.A. and KMVK here in DFW? Enough said. There's nothing jammed down your throat. If you don't like what's on the Lubbock airwaves, turn your radio off. That's what I did when I lived there. There was no 104 nothing, so I settled for tapes and CDs.

There's no need to be hostile or defensive about it, we are just having a simple debate and discussion.
I'm not talking about MOViN. We don't need 3 stations playing the same thing.

Garrett, I'm not being hostile. You know we go back like a car in reverse....

We do?
I don't remember, sorry.

The music on those two stations is just not my thing. If its popular, great.
I just think there's room for something else too.

As for Z, he (and they) better hurry up! Over the weekend, I noticed Mix was definitely closing in on CHR, and I wonder if they can even be called "Adult Top 40" anymore.

I would still call them Adult Top 40, but I have noticed a couple of interesting observations lately.

1)They have once again dropped the all 80s weekends
2)They recently added Chris Brown "Forever" and Danity Kane "Damaged". Something that most Hot AC (or adult top 40 if you prefer) stations don't play.

They do seem to be experimenting with some more CHR tracks, but until I see them play "Low", "Lollipop" or "Sexy Can I", I would still call them more Adult Top 40 than CHR.

Lol...very true.

I always wondered if HOT would ever get a REAL website (MySpace does not count...)

Wait! Quick question. Why does MYSPACE not count? If it is the most interactive medium for your listeners when it comes to the web... then why not? The only thing myspace is missing, when it comes to RADIO STATIONS HAVING PAGES, is the ability to stream the station. Most of all radio station websites are crap anyway. And I'm not talking about how they look but what the listener can do on them. Yes, some websites can allow listeners to interact with each other. But not even close to the interaction that MYSPACE offers. If myspace doesn't count as an official place on the web, then why do movie studios etc... dish out big bucks to have myspace promote them all over their site? One) It would be beyond stupid not to. 2) people aren't going to spend much time on their site etc... anyway. Thats IF they even stop by it.

All I am saying is, if something like myspace wasn't around, I could understand making an issue out of a radio station not having a website. However, seeing that it is... a smart PD etc... should take total advantage of it and at least tie the two together. However, if the station doesnt have a crappy website to tie to... then at least have a myspace and promote the hell out of it. However, if your DEMO is not really the myspace DEMO... and you don't have a website... yeah I can see that as a lazy, uncreative station.

Thats just my two cents.

From an interactive standpoint, I couldn't agree more. The only problem I see is the image of that station; Myspace is free, anyone can have a page (maybe KFMX and Z102 should consider it). But I think it is harder to find, unless you register a forwarding address (for example if Hot1043.com forwarded to the Myspace page).

By the way, I hope the guys over at Hot104-3 have permission to post from RAMAR, they have strict rules down there that you are not allowed to unofficially reproduce any of the stations logos for use of any kind. We learned that, years ago, during my 15 minutes working at 104.3. We were brand new, and while doing a remote at the South Plains Fair, Eddie Cruze had some T-shirts mocked up by one of the booths. The next day he was ordered to destroy the shirts.

Hey Gabba, one other note: I'm sure you've already thought of it, but can KFMX use someone like YES.com for a playlist window?

KFMX & KZII have myspace pages. I do know that KZII at least used to promote it on air with imaging etc... as for KFMX they don't promote it with imaging. However, they do, or atleast some jocks, promote it on-air.
