Hot 87.7 Jobs ??

Bullcrap! IF someone worked in an illegal bank, ie loan sharking or one of those boiler room trading companies, they wouldn't be employable in the real financial industry.

How hard is it to look up a license? Go to radio-locator.com and type in your city. If you're going into the industry, yes, you should know whether or not your station has a license. That's really not asking a whole lot, is it.

And they knew what they were getting into, a lot of industry VETERANS working for this fake radio station. They knew. And if they lost their "jobs", then oh well. That's the way it goes.

This is not the past. If the FCC can look away from a pirate station (TouchFM) where the Mayor of Boston and Governor of Massachusetts appear regularly it ain't that important. You can look it up, and I can look it up, but your average listener doesn't care about it. You speak of radio-locator as if the general public knows about it well they don't. They go to the pirate stations website and as far as they are concerned it is legitimate. If I were a radio station owner I would hire these guys in a minute. Have them clean up their act and bring their audience to me. People on this board are too close to this issue and can't see it from the persective of a guy that turns his radio for entertainment or news.

Touch has been visited twice and fined. This is a federal process that takes time. But just like 87.7 the clock will run out on them too. All their local politicians won't be able to help them when the non politicians roll in.

Pirates are entitled to NOTHING - other than heavy fines and/or jail time.
MickeyD has obviously never tried to make a legitimate living, in the
broadcast business. It is not an easy thing to do! Play by the rules
that everybody else has to follow, OR DON'T PLAY AT ALL!!!!!!

You are kidding right? Touch FM was on the air a couple of years before the guys at 87.7. Touch will never be shut down. If Harry Reid can tell the FCC to issue a license to a guy in Nevada a Governor can tell the gov't to lay off Touch. All of the other pirates are still on the air from the area too. Not happening.

Really? 37 years on May 5th. From radio to retiring from network TV. You may be right I sometimes wonder if NBC is legitimate. They DO NOT PUT PEOPLE IN JAIL FOR OPERATING A RADIO STATION WITHOUT A LICENSE. Enough of the Jail stuff pirates rarely even pay a fine. It is not an easy thing to do at an AM station these days.

Correct me

The problem with these "fines" is that there really is no way to enforce them. What good is a fine if you can't collect it?

Ironically, if someone says "****" on the air by accident during a live event that could get you a $250,000.00 fine. Pirate radio, nah.

Maybe not. The Supreme Court decides the obscenity laws in August and terrestrial radio may become like Sirius soon. It doesn't look good for teh FCC on this one their rules on indecency are too vague.

As was said before this is all part of a long process and the process is in motion. Mr. Clemons is also talking about running for mayor. He is already said he will step away from the station as I guess he does think that operating an illegal station might affect his campaign. However that outstanding federal fine is in his name and that will follow him. It will also be interested to see how Mayor Menino feels when the pirate is running against him? If he was elected mayor perhaps restaurants and bars in the city won't need liquor licenses and anyone will be able to own a cab?? Again it's obvious to see why local politicians can overlook the legality of the station to get votes. But that's where the support ends and when the feds come rolling in they will all scamper away and say we had no idea it was an illegal station.
Of course two weeks later someone will take Mr. Clemons place with a new community voice but that's the game that is played today....

Well here a little bit of information that isn't well known. Clemons filed a federal law suit based upon Harry Reid's action and that law suit is still pending with no scheduled trial date. If you have enough money you can do the same thing but how many pirates have that kind of money? You are mixing local and state laws with federal laws and they aren't the same. As to local and state laws, not that I am teling you something you don't know, money talks.

The FCC frequently disregards their own rules and that leaves them wide open for legal battles. Your average person doesn't have the money to pursue it but if you do the government doesn't have the money to challenge such insignificant matters. Yes, when you consider what the federal government has to deal with illegal radio is on the very bottom rung.

Well what do we have here. It seems like one of those disreputable pirate dj's got hired by a VERY established radio station. Clear Channel's Jam'n 945 just hired former hot97Boston (hot87) Dj Chubby Chub! As a resident mix Dj. I guess to garner more street cred in the urban area's.
