Hot 96.9 First Song?

They should have grabbed the intellectual property of Hot 97 Boston. They had a large following as a pirate. 96.9 is close to 97, much closer than 87.7.

The intellectual property of a former pirate station? I don't think so...
That intellectual property used to belong to WBOT 97.7. The Facebook page of Hot 97 Boston has over 10000 fans. Maybe Greater Media could just pay their FCC fine in exchange for the intellectual property. Pirate stations have "gone legal" elsewhere.

I highly doubt they paid Radio One anything to use that logo.

The new 96.9 should be a "pure" urban format.

Today, urban formats have appear far beyond African-Americans. Many young whites (especially males) also listen to urban stations. In fact, the growth of urban formats among white listeners has been a major reason why contemporary rock stations (whose traditional target audience are young men) have done poorly in recent years and why many stations have pulled the plug on rock formats.

If Greater Media indeed does a pure urban contemporary format on 96.9, I think with by Summer, it will be one of Boston's five most popular stations in terms of overall audience, and the most popular station among listeners under the age of 35.

A pure urban station in this market has the potential to be this big.
With WILD and WBOT long gone, WJMN being a faux-pas urban and the fact that the Boston radio market has below 10% Black population (although the city itself is around 24% Black), Greater Media should look at other markets with similar demos that still can manage an urban format station or two. That way GM can take notes on how to run the format, apply it to Boston and rake in finances to keep it. Think San Francisco - the market still has KBLX and KMEL even though it is 7% Black but the listenership in Oakland makes up for it. Other market examples: Oklahoma City and Tulsa (Perry Broadcasting) and Lexington, Kentucky (They have three urbans there).

That's not allowed Nick. Besides those pirate stations which have "gone legal" are mostly LPFMs and small class A stations in small markets.
We're talking a full B commercial station in Boston, a top 10 market. There is no way they are going to associate with Hot 97, no way , shape, or form.
Especially one who was raided by the FCC, had NALs issued against them. That would be 100% stupid to associate yourself with a station like that.

not so fast look at this tweet!! Power969FM ‏@Power969FM

Rap vs Rock: Which do you prefer, Boston? Is it possible to have both play throughout the day? What about Talk? Is it really gone?

Looks like you swallowed the Kool-Aid. When you have a minute, look up the term "red herring."

They've been stunting since last Wednesday. What makes you think this tweet isn't just another stunt?

another fake profile sorry!!

Pebbles Launches Hot 96.9 At 11 AM

First mention of the station's new name: when she gives out the station's Twitter account.

Re: Pebbles Is On At 11 AM

Is this the first time a station launched cold without any imaging?

Re: Pebbles Launches Hot 96.9 At 11 AM

what's the name of the station? How about the music? How does it sound? I can't listen till later after work (5:30pm)
Over here at my weekday job, we only have on (Magic 106.7). It's on in every office. There's a Stereo Reciever somewhere in the building that controls all (Office Audio Music Speaker) within this Medical Practice

:(

May you all update us for us who can not listen at work?

i just got the tweet and was like oh sh*t see what happens when you stop listening!!!

Re: Pebbles Launches Hot 96.9 At 11 AM

Lauro, the first song was "Run This Town" by Rihanna and Jay-Z. Followed by what sounded like a Ne-Yo song ("Let Me Love You"?), and now it's "Jumpin' Jumpin'" by Destiny's Child.

They'd better be careful here, they run the risk of cannibalizing Magic's audience.

I'm enjoying the station. This is what I wanted. Rhythmic, not to old, not all new. It appears to be a Rhythmic AC. Good choice, Greater Media!

Nice choice, Greater Media. Not too old, not too new. Nice mix and rhythmic too!

Enjoy it while you can, this another stunt. This can't be real. It's too bad and to predictable music.

Unfortunately in this very boring era of radio (for the most part), this very well could be the real thing...sigh...infuriating really! I'm tired of it myself... but what can you do :((
