Hot 96.9 First Song?

Why would they be building a studio? Aren't they just in 96.9's studio?

It's common for top 40/contemporary dance/rhythm/urban/churban stations or (whatever name you want to call this lousy repetitive music) to turn up the pitch to make the songs run faster so they can squeeze in as much commercial pap as they can, so the songs may sound like the vocals are on helium, as well as autotuned.
My tastes still transcend my age, I like music that is not over produced, and Is avante garde, progressive or Blues, or Boogie rock

Can you tell I'm a bit disgusted? Although I couldn't stand the ultra right talkers on WTKK, I loved the news every half hour, and the traffic and weather, and Jim Braude, John Batchelor, and Joe Ligotti were intelligent and fun to listen to. After 13 years of floundering, WTKK sounded like they were headed in the right direction.Of course the Greed Heads in corporate, had other ideas, so this is what we are stuck with. Thank You Cadillac Ranch, Pebbles and Bab Bam.

Does every song sound weird to everyone else too? Can't put my finger on it...I've heard all of these songs a million times and they all sound a little different/off...

Not quite sure how many times people have to say this, but pitching is NOT to squeeze out more commercial time. Period. End of discussion. The thought behind pitching music is to make the station sound more lively, commonly done with stations who share much of their library with another station(s) when doing an A-B comparison between pitched and non-pitched, the non-pitched station will sound slower, boring and not as fun.

Ugh... Diamonds again at 1:09. Now we got 4 stations playing the same song in high rotation.

Wish they would keep the power rotation at 3 hours

They should've just did like this
week
6am-10am Peables
10am-3pm "The Touch" Cumulus Media Network
3pm-7pm "The Doug Banks Show" AURN.COM
7pm-Midnight "The Quiet Storm" Superadio.com (Monday-Thursday) ===(On Friday "The Touch")
Saturday
-Midnight-Midnight-"The Touch"
Sunday
Midnight-6am "The Touch"
6am-7am PSA Programs
7am-Noon "Jazz Trax" Unitedstations.com
Noon-Midnight "The Touch"

That's what they should've done.

I hope they can be better than what they are doing now.

What they could do, to make things better,
weekdays
6am-10am Peables
10am-3pm (???) Continuous Music (Noon-3pm) Non Stop Mixes which includes Current Hits, Hip Hop, and Classic Soul
3pm-7pm "The Doug Banks Show"

There's a lot they can can do with this station.

One more thing

Bye Bye Pirate Stations!!! (Touch 106.1, Big City 101.3, Choice 102.9) Byeeeee all

I've been watching these post each and every day for two weeks and I can't say I'm happy or surprised. A more Urban station would have been better, nothing different over here to lure suburban listeners, nothing urban enough to get urban listeners. It's also a 100% female station, I can;t imagine any guy listening to this for more than 10 minutes. Believe me, I keep trying.....

another thing they could do to fire them up
Week
6am-10am Peables
10am-Noon Non Stop Mixes (Current Hits, Hip Hop, and Classic Soul)
Noon-3pm Junior Roddigan (He's currently on 102.9 late weekday afternoons) Put him on there playing the Newest and Latest in Reggae/Caribbean
3pm-7pm The Doug Banks Show AURN.COM
7pm-Midnight Garfield (He was most recently on HOT 87.7), and the former HOT 97.7 (Now WKAF)
Garfield has a great personality.
They have to think to make this station last long

As much as I would love to see a Urban AC in Boston, its pretty clear who Hot 96.9 is targeting based on the press release and the Radio Insight story. So if anything, it'll be interesting to see what WJMN and WBMX will do next.

I don't even understand why their going through the trouble of tip toeing around with a varied and vanilla format when you could do a Mainstream Urban and split (an enlarged) audience with JAMN in a year or so. It'd be just as successful and easier to program than this...

Because this is Boston not New York and also it's Greater Media.

But, you know, not too bad at all.

Hit the nail right on the head. I've just been looping my 5 hour recording of Power and wishing that someone would finally have the balls to go a little more chocolate then vanilla here in Boston, but I digress. It's like everyone is afraid of Jam'n's lackluster product. Jamn is TERRIBLE and MEDIOCRE and a prime target if done well. We'll see what Hot does...I'm thinking this first day may just be a feeler with all the core artists being spun a lot
(MJ, rihanna etc.)

Honestly. I mean its not like white kids from the suburbs will hear a Mainstream Urban and tune out. Make it the same as JAM'N without the Pop/Dance whatever you call it nonsense. I'm sure you could get enough late teen early 20s people from Boston, Worcester, Brockton, Lynn, Chelsea, Malden, Everett, Revere, Medford, Somerville, Randolph, Milton, Stoughton, Lawrence, Lowell, New Bedford and so on...those are all urban diverse places when you look at the younger demographics.Albeit thew older demographics are drastically different, which is why Urban AC would be such a difficult sell. Alas, I go back to school in Hartford soon so I'll just listen to Hot 93.7.

DAMN, I'm jealous. I would KILL for that station to be here in Boston. CT is SPOILED with Hot. And you are SO right about those towns/cities you listed as premier listening places for that urban audience. BTW your posts have been great!

It looks like what CJ has done is taken the hottest rhythmic currents, along with the top hits from Jamn 94.5's playlist over the past 15 years... and sprinkled in just a few gold's from the 80's. After some thought, I believe they might have a ratings winner here.

I heard them drop in a couple of Ja Rule tracks yesterday that I haven't heard in a long time. To the casual radio listener who is in to that kind of music, I would imagine the station is actually sounding pretty good to them right now.

Now they just have to advertise to let the regular listeners of the other Top 40 signals in town know that they are actually there.

i noticed there fb likes not that it means much is catching up to amp in only a day at 1281,compared to amp who has 2200 its taken amp a while to get that high.

13,000 songs in a row!

Anyone keeping track of the song count?

40 songs/hr x 24 hrs x 13 days = 12480;
40 24 14 = 13440;
50 24 10 = 12000;
50 24 11 = 13200;

So, I’d say it could be any time now! ::)
