Methinks Clear Channel has a problem on its hands... and Greater Media has a monster hit in the making.

This station has buzz. More than 2,000 Facebook likes in less than four days. The playlist is clearly touching a nerve with people around age 30. Once the 13,000 songs are through, hopefully they will loosen up the playlist a bit to add more "throwbacks" and cut down on the heavy spinning of Rihanna ("Diamonds") and Alicia Keys ("This Girl is on Fire'). They could be a top 10 or even top 5 station in 6 months-to-a-year. Pebbles clearly has a HUGE and loyal following in this market. If Melissa is indeed joining the station, she will bring over even more converts. Once their shows get up and running, there may be no stopping Hot96.9.

Totally agree i put it on at work and the my coworkers were like wow this station is great. Hip hop oldies is a good term for it the throwbacks are even better. they have since passed amp in fb likes in only 4days very impressive. Just my two cents.

While SupermarketSweep seems a little suspicious to me (this was their first post Greater Media employee?), I actually think a lot of this analysis is right. I think CC underestimated what getting rid of Pebbles from 94.5's morning show would cause. The amount of people who grew up listening to Jam'n with Pebbles in mornings who are getting into the 25-30 year-old age bracket is actually huge. This is also the perfect station for Pebbles to have a morning show on: a little older skew than Jam'n, but in the money demo.

That is a good question. Imagine bringing back Baltazar? I believe Baltazar is out in CA hosting his own morning show with somebody else. Could be wrong though..

How does anyone ever manage to make a first post here without being accused of shilling for an employer?

@NewHampshireDude: I can assure you I am NOT a GreaterMedia employee. In fact, I don't even work in radio. I have "no dog in this hunt." I DID just create an account on here... but I have been visiting and reading these boards for years. (Just never felt the need to write anything.) I happen to be in my early 30s and I am connecting with this station in a way that I have not with any radio station in a LONG time. I grew up listening to Pebbles, was disgusted by Clear Channel's decision to ax her, and am very happy that she's landed here. Thanks for supporting my analysis though. :)

Fair enough. 96.9 is sounding really good music-wise, and I think Pebbles' presence is keeping interest in the station very high.

Again, how? How did Melissa get hired to work at "HOT 96.9"
There are no Job Listings. I'd like to know why and how that is?
What about us people out there who are looking for jobs in radio who would like to apply, but right now, there is no contact info on their website to contact the PD
That's not fair for us hard working people out there, just trying to make it in this world.

You can start volunteering for college radio for example WMWM Salem State.

Make recordings of your show and shop them around to stations. How is your radio voice? What knowledge do you have of the music?

I've been working in the Radio Business for 12 years now. I'm looking for a Paying Job. Not volunteering
My mistake, I just looked on their site, they do have an openning for an "Imigaging Director" But what about us Producers, Board Ops, and radio hosts.
It's not fair how they do like that.

You forgot to add "get off my lawn."

Are WRKO, WEEI, WZLX, WBZ, WBZ-FM, WXRV, WBOS, or WROR serving your so-called "EBT crowd?" Or are you just upset that the dial doesn't exactly represent your personal tastes?

Want a piece of advice?

Probably not, but here it comes anyway:

If you want to stay in the biz bad enough, learn to be versatile. Imaging work is nothing to sneeze at. Give it a shot. What have you got to lose?
