Hot 97.5 Debuts Saturday At 12am

By the way, isn't a Hot AC just a Top 40 that leans more alternative / pop rock?

HotAC is "Hot Adult Comtemporary." In my opinion, that's somewhat the format 97.5 was in recent months before the X mas stunt. The next closest thing Phx has to Hot AC is Mixx.

Hopefully they bring back Dj Pauly or Greggy D, and hopefully they'll play Sick Puppies and the new Linkin Park and some Nickelback.

If they become a true HotAC, why would they do a mixshow? Do those songs you mentioned play on Mixx? If not, then it's most likely NOT HotAC....

Next thing, Greggy D is in Vegas, and doesn't do radio anymore. I don't believe he was ever on Movin' (with the exception of getting mentioned on a commmercial from a "fake" club broadcast). As far as Pauly, he does syndication shows for "Hot Mix," but don't know that he does an AC show (because AC stations don't mix).

They could mix at least once a week if they adopt a WWWQ style format with dayparting, and what better place is there to have a hot mix than a hot ac named Hot 97?

They could daypart and skew for the rich ac crowd during the midday then lean more top 40 pop in the evening.

I just think they are barking up the wrong tree. If people like what Mix is doing these days what makes them think they can take anything way from Mix? I mean with this market it is over saturated with this type of music. I could see if there was one station doing this music but its not. Even Kiss shares some music with Mix and even Kez to a point. I will be interested to see how it goes but I just think they should have taken the station in another different direction.

I wouldn't daypart anything. The biggest problem with Moving the last 18 months was their inconsistency. They had their best ratings a few years ago when they were still rhythmic, then they went and added a bunch of 90's Hot AC and a good chunk of new pop/rock and the ratings havn't been the same since. Say what you will about mix but people know what they will get when they tune in. They are consistent with their product, almost to the point of being boring and predictable to some of us, but it works for them.

I posted a few months back that I wold like to see 97.5 go modern AC, no rhythmic stuff at all and no 80's but with a very slight alternative/AAA lean. This would take some listeners away from your current AC's and still differentiate them a bit.

Does Phoenix even have any stations that daypart? Didn't Power 92 used to daypart at one point in the mid to late 90's? I remember mornings being more pop & top 40 and afternoon/evenings being more dance intensive.

Mix 96.9 certainly has an interesting format: It's pretty much a hybrid of Hot AC/Alternative/Modern AC/80s/90s. In an interview the PD said something along the lines of they are able to play a lot of alt. music because the market doesn't have an alternative station. Hello, X103.9!? With Mix #1 12+, the idea of going up against them with a straight up Hot AC is compelling, but as mentioned in this thread there is so much musical overlap with Mix and the other stations that the result will probably be negligible. At least they had a fairly unique format when they first signed on as a true Rhythmic AC.

It would be nice if the AAA format were to be attempted in the market. Would be a nice change of pace.

Um, who cares? this is a rim-shot POS signal that no one cared about before, and should still not bother with. they should focus on Prescott and Wickenburg, where their signal is best and then an AC or CHR format would make sense. If they want to play in Phoenix, they need some serious research and understand what they need to focus on with the Zip Codes they are playing in, but this station has been a toy to 'experiment" with and has had a "see what sticks" attitude. Sad, because the people who work there are pretty good, but don't have a snowball's chance in hell or winning in any category.

Had the thought occurred to any of you that this is a smokescreen?

Unless they're incredibly poorly run, they're not going to tip off potential competitors who have a week to adjust, and cover whatever hole they plan to fill.

And there are no real holes. With one exception. That appears to be where they're going. The question is;

Is there any "there" there?

We'll see.

Y95 used to. I actually liked it. Especially at night when you'd hear 2 Unlimited, New Order, Chili Peppers, Speedracer, House of Pain, and all the stuff you wouldn't hear in the day.

Great memories. They referred to the nighttime programming as "The Underground". I wish I had better appreciated the unique sound of the station at the time.

* - this is referring to Kevin 'Koz' Koske, who now does afternoon drive on Bonneville's WTMX in Chicago.

Yup, and I still do. That was my point when I posted (in the other active thread about this station) that the comments on All-Access were so canned (even more than normal for a press release), it almost doesn't seem legitimate.

Almost.

We'll see.

I don't know how I missed this post, but.. I do agree with it to a certain degree, and to be honest, I'm still thinking other things, although I'm playing along and running with the Hot AC talk. There are a few blatant details here that "just don't add up", but that could all be "part of the smokescreen plan". I guess we'll see, but if they are really planning on doing something "outrageously dumb" like... well, unadulterated polka music for example, then I don't see why they'd need to mess around with a smokescreen. I only see a smokescreen necessary - if they're planning on being slick & slight, or delivering a typical sound that fully or somewhat already exists (that another more heritage station could attempt to discourage just by easily tweaking their format slightly before the real 97.5 debuts with their similar sound).

Now I have been saying for awhile I would love a Hot AC/Talk format like the Link in Charlotte. I know many of you would not tune into that but to me it would be something new on the radio dial. Iwould just find room for Matt and Ramona and the Cooper Lawerence show and call it a day. ;-)

Alright! I just looked at that website, and that website makes this whole thing look just as suspicious as a man holding a Backstreet Boys CD would make him look gay. Now, I'm reeeally dying to see what happens here... Why does the page look so fake? And how are they making radio anymore sociable (IN 2010, I should add) than it already has been? Didn't MOViN have the same amount of social features or even more? And as far as their MySpace page having two friends on it, well.... that only makes it even MORE suspicious to me because we all know that there are less people on myspace than that! This whole thing just seems so unreal. It's silly, and it's even sillier than the times when:

1. I won the Ron & Don contest by default and scored a date with a woman almost twice my age on 104.7 ZZP,
2. the times I used to call the Friday Night Flava's underground hip hop show on Power 92 to tell them all the songs in the countdown and win every single weekend until I was banned from winning anything again for two months,
3. The time I used to call KPKX from JC Penney, tying up the break room phone line during my breaks & lunch breaks with a long list of light rock classics and hits I had written on a JC Penney catalog to ask who sang all of them, and
4. the time I wrote a 4 page letter to Mini Salas about the Power Workout @ Noon and how happy I was about it before they even officially announced that that was actually the new mixshow that was coming the next week,

COMBINED!

I think it's THAT Silly!

(Ok, quite a few people are probably logging in, reading this, and thinking "OMG!!! no way.......")

Anyway, I am just dying to see what, if anything, happens on Christmas... and if any of this hit pop/rock stuff unfolds exactly as things are indicating, I'll...... I'll..... well, I'll think of something.

Ok unless the trumper boys and girls have tapped too much into the egg nog and holiday cheer, this has to be a front.. just saying ;-)

Well, it's pretty obvious that the page I posted to their website isn't completed or we're only seeing what they want us to see right now. I'm sure the full web page will be activated by Saturday 12:00 AM.
