Now is WILD-AM back to playing Classic R&B? I haven't really tuned in lately, so I am not sure. If not, then I do not see why some other station on the AM could pick up on the format instead? Perhaps some of these pirates could raise some capital and purchase a station. Makes sense to me!
WILD-AM 1090 is Classic R&B Tape music ( No D J's ) and Racist Black talk ( Al Sharpton ) . Radio One just can't get it right.

We know you don't like Radio One... drop it already.
I used to like Radio One until they started doing stupid Sh-t here in Boston and out in LA .

WILD is only playing Classic R&B weekdays after 4 PM until their mandatory sign-off a half-hour after sunset (not very long at this time of year), on Saturdays most of their broadcast day, and on Sunday afternoons.

Are they that backward to still be using tape for that? I thought maybe they were playing the music from a hard drive with some computer music player program.

I have noticed that only one stereo channel of the music is being fed into their mono signal. Many stereo songs are missing horns, backing vocals, etc... because they're on the other channel not being fed into the mono mix.
Why can't they at least mix both stereo channels together for correct mono sound?

From Big City 101.3's website:

Big City is now one of New England's premier radio stations and was one of the first urban stations in the area

And from their On Air Staff page:
http://bigcityfm.com/index.cfm?accion=staffbio.detail&id=27

I think he's actually worked in commercial, lciensed radio before.. I think he was at Jammin 107.7 in New London
Based on write-up I just read on his website, it’s nothing more than allot of embellishment. I don’t know about all the other claims made; but based on the ones I know about first hand, this guy basically worked on street teams and made comedy skits for morning shows. His experience his mostly exaggerated. Still his talents are probably better served at any pirate radio station than any commercial station. At a pirate station at least he can actually get to play real music. With the advent of internet radio in about 3 years from now commercial stations will be irrelevant. We need more pirates not less. I read somewhere that Obama will even make more cuts in an already underfunded fcc, so that’s great news. Next we need to rewrite the entire fcc rule book to break up the monopoly and allow radio to serve everyone and not ignore minorities communities and urban listenership.

I agree whole heartedly

oh... and just to let y'all know, they will not be on 97.1!!! They are gonna be on 97.5 now, so WTKK 96.9 has nothing to worry about.

Obama doesn't have the authority to cut the budget. Congress does that.
Second, what monopoly? Clear Channel had at its peak about 1200 stations...now its far less. Even at 1200 stations that's approx. 9% of the total AM and FM stations. Hardly a monopoly.
Third, there are many stations that serve all kinds of minorities in markets big and small. Every large market has multiple brokered stations serving groups in dozens of languages. Hell, the Boston area alone must have ten. The number of Spanish stations grows every day, and there are Black oriented stations in practically all decent sized markets as well as on satellite.
Please cut back on the rhetoric and try to be more informed. Thank you.

That's not going to help them much, with WKAF right next door to the them on the dial.
yeah... but dont forget that WAAF still has 107.3 also

SO? THat has to be the weakest argument for a pirate, EVER.

There's a reason WAAF is on 97.7 now.

The fact remains, 97.1 or 97.5....or whoever they choose to be sitll don't have a license and will almost certainly interfering with a licensed commercial station..... not far from the FCC Field Office in Quincy!

Well good for you...

I don't support pirate radio whatsoever, no matter what format it brings to the airwaves.. no matter how abd that format is needed.

I am a broadcaster, having programmed and managed stations, having jocked several different music formats.. and hope to be an owner one day.

There are those of us who work hard for years and fight for a license, legally.. pirate radio really helps nothing.

I feel you on that... so where do you broadcast?

I have a Broadcasting Degre from Art Institute of Boston and Ive worked with Nationally Syndicated Russ Parr Morning Show on Radio-One when they were on HOT 97.7

And I also worked with HOT 97.7 locally on the Street Team

I have worked in the Midwest and Northern New England area.

Even though you aren't the one doing it, How do you justify operating a FM transmitter without a license?

Im really not justifying it bro... I just feel that its good to have another hip-hop station on the airwaves. I know what they doing is wrong, I really dont know why they wont get an FCC License since it should be easy with them havin some of the same Personalities as they had on HOT 97.7.

I guess Im having mixed emotions about this thing cause I know most of the Management of this station and most of the Personalities

What does having the same personlities have to do with the ease of getting an FCC license?

Nevermind the fact any station in the Boston Metro would cost at least $1 million, there's no room left to apply for a new frequency, even if you could.

License for what? On Air Personalities/Board Operators are no longer required to hold a license.

I'm all for bringing a needed format to a market, but doing it legally.

my bad bro... I meant to say I received my Degree, not License.

Not to mention that 97.5 will also interfere with 97.3 in New Bedford. I hope the F.C.C shuts the pirates down before F.M. becomes as bad as C.B. was from the 1970s-2000. C.B. used to be chaotic.

Why don't all of the Boston-area pirates pool their money, get a loan & try to buy 1090? It's a start but it has the heritage! I don't see how Radio One could justify a $7M asking price now if that's what it was a few years ago.

Radioguybroadcasting's right: pirates are a slap in the face to those of us who are trying to get licenses legally.

Jay,

Pirate radio is a plain old slap in the face to broadcasters like you and me, wether we're on air people.. want to buy a station or not.
