Hot Hits WCAU FM tribute station

The original Hot Hits was a currents-based format. What this tribute station did was play 40-year old songs. Two different things.
Unless it played only songs that were on the playlist at the same time. An all-week-of-July-15-1984 station would sound authentic, An all-July-1984 station would be playing some songs that had dropped off before or entered after July 15. An all-1984 station would merely be playing the 40 biggest songs of 1984.

Doesn't matter. The intent of the Hot Hits format was to attract 18-34s in the 1980s. They were introducing new songs, and playing them frequently with the intent of familiarizing the young audience with those songs. That's not the goal here. After 40 years of airplay, people know these songs. The audience is 40 years older. So to use the same programming techniques now is crazy. It leads to comments like the ones we've seen about "too much repetition." That's a boomer's response today to something that was perfectly acceptable when they were younger.

would be nice if they brought back the original WCAU-FM-98 (70--75), solid gold radio, music, jingles, etc., under the late great diamond Jim, WFIL and WPGR have on line listening sites. But most of you would not understand or appreciate it due to the average age of the members here are in their 20s and 30s.

It is? I thought most RadioDiscussions members are boomers and Gen X'ers, people who grew up when radio was a much bigger part of their entertainment experience than it is now, both radio fans and retired or veteran radio professionals.

I dunno, how many here have lived through WIBG 56-69, WFIL 66-80, WPEN 50s/60s, WIP 60s in their music yeras and the best oldies station on the planet WCAU-FM, outside of us old geezers David, Frank and me, we even remember the cars with the two antennas on the back, I think only one was hooked up lmao
