House Foundation Ending 12/15

The problem with the "Big D & Bubba Plan" is that it involves going with their syndicated show. The House Foundation was very much a local show. The reason I threw out those two "wildcards" was not to list an alternative but to throw out a couple of far-fetched ideas that would make mornings local. Local likes retreads, not fresh talent. When House came here all those years ago he was fresh talent, but it was in a day when most radio was local. He had to stay around long enough to be thought of as local.

i see it being tough for someone to come in that is NOT local...gerry and mike have been here so long..thought of as family to the listeners..plus they had their ear to music row and what was happening over there. if cc is going to throw someone not local..might as well plug up winamp and vt it...where will gerry's loyal listeners go?? taylor swift is the same no matter which station plays her...it's what happens between the music that grabs listeners...and a loyal following...now here's a random off the wall thought...could gerry be leaving....just to go somewhere else after the first of the year..?? ;) im sure he has a no compete claus..but still just a wild idea?? ::) ??? or insane one

I need some help with this but I think the only #1 book KDF had was when Gerry was out sick. Big D and Bubba were moved to Nashville to be in place if and when Gerry could not come back on the air. We all know Big D and Bubba are syndicated but does the listener? And does the listener care now days?

Not necessarily. Ryan Seacrest does a local show on KIIS, then uses elements from the local show in his syndicated show. And the local show is a big hit in LA.

I thought it was pretty significant that Cumulus hired Tony & Kris, who are a great team from San Diego, to do a syndicated morning show from Nashville. But they didn't put them on The Wolf. They kept that station local.

I think the bigger problem for a new show on WSIX (no matter who they bring in) will be the difference in tempo. Gerry was purposely loose. Very casual. Lots of dead air. That was part of his style. There are Gerry imitators around the country, and that may be another way to go.

If familiarity is what they want, there are lots of former SIXers still in Nashville. CC McCartney, Hollywood, Hoss Burns, Carl P. All tanned, rested, and ready. If that's what they want. And then there are former jocks from other Nashville stations who are still around.

i think radio in most cases is just background clutter in business's....but in gerry;s case..there is a devoted audience..that wants GERRY, .im sure other jocks are the same way with their audience in other cities as well..but you do have a valid point concerning the status of radio as a whole in todays lifestyle.."back in the day"...as the youngun's say...you had a favorite station and jocks that were on it...and thats what you locked and loaded in your car..

Interesting that Gator just went to CC Chattanooga right before this happened. Much better than Big D & Bubba (nice guys, but couldn't do it that early). Anyways, Gerry & Bohan was the ONLY reason I, as well as many others listened to 98. It all started with "big 98 country", ugh. I say, McFly and Bohan in the morning on KDF! I think that'd be a great combo. I can't STAND Marty's current cohost. If I hear "OMG" or "Dear God" or her laugh one more time...she's absolutely killing any momentum that station has. I know, kind words, sorry Jack Shell; I'm sure she's a good person. I too think the Woody and Jim show would slide in on 98 quite nicely. Find something younger for the River, good call. (At the same time, the River can't risk too much with i106 in town). I know, I know, no competition, but I wouldn't underestimate "I" too much.

I have to admit the Woody and Jim concept is pretty unique and certainly some decent percentage of listeners in the proper demos would be familiar with them. The one mistake
that will impale SIX would be to go with a national syn show. I would give it a 1 in 10
shot at pulling a 5. Certainly they may find "that" exception and pull it off, but whew, I
would not want to be the first team in after Dec. 15. That's an act virtually impossible
to follow. Again, if you look at pure real numbers (rankings), you see things have been
falling, but in this situation, CC HAS to figure out a way to regain the momentum to
keep from giving KDF control. This will be interesting to watch. Who would have thought
we'd be watch KDF in this race more than the Bark. Hmm. Anyone wanna guess if Marino
will gain any real numbers from this?

Big D & Bubba might seem the best available talent. I hope CC has the stomach to be patient and not panic as whoever replaces House will be compared to Gerry. As the industry watches Big D & B's numbers and if they show a slide it could be misinterpreted and prove to hurt their syndication...

Doesn't CC/Premiere also syndicate "The John Boy & Billy Big Show"? How about that as a replacement on WSIX? Or would they be considered too "upscale" for Nashville?

aren't jb and billy on in nashville now ?? seems like i used to hear them them flash by the tuner searching for something decent to listen to...

Jet & Delta have some good suggestions. Evin if they went back to the Beau Kent days, that would be better than Big D & Bubba. Hell, Rick and Bubba would be better.

How about WSIX bring in JV, who does the morning show at CC sister station KYLD(WiLD 94.9) in San Francisco? He would be a great talent in any format!

The last thing that would go over in Nashville is a country morning drive host from San Francisco. The ensuing complaints would remind me of that commercial where it's discovered the salsa is made in "Noo Yawk City!"

As far as John Boy and Billy, CC could move them over from 105.9. But I don't think that would please WSIX listeners. Big D and Bubba's syndicated show is more of a morning drive show than what you hear with them afternoons now.

DO we all agree the smart money is on a syndicated morning show? It's wrong-headed thinking to my POV but corporate radio today isn't so much about making money it's about not spending it. A syndicated show would fill that bill nicely.

Plan all along has been to have Big D and Bubba in the morning slot when Gerry's gone. WSIX has been getting its listeners used to them by having them in the afternoon slot these past coupla years or so. Yes, it will be Big D and Bubba live in Nashville, but it will be the same show they send out to all of their affiliates, yet with local inserts. Technically, then, the plan is to replace the House Foundation with a syndicated show.

If something different happens, it will be because it is determined there's a better alternative to what's been the plan, or the plan just didn't work out.

If the Big D and Bubba Show replaces the House Foundation at WSIX. Maybe WSIX should bring in KYLD/San Francisco midday talent Dreena Gonzalez for afternoons. She would retain her current radio shows in San Francisco, Portland and Denver!
