Houston Analog shut-off times

51 shut down at 11:57; 61 at 11:59.

And so, with all full power NTSC TV channels in Houston having gone silent an era comes to an end.

Only old channel 2 remains with the nightlight service. How appropriate as it was Houston's first ever TV channel to light up in 1949.


Now, excuse me while I go re-connect the conveter box and do a re-scan of the digital channels.

Oh, and my apologies for spamming the board ;D

It went off 11:19. KBPX and KUVM are still on the air. I got this religious channel from somewhere on channel 9 (a little fuzzy since I'm a DXer).
 
I don't see why KBPX should stay on the air, as it is a simulcast of now-co-located full power KPXB. Perhaps justifiable when the analog xmtr was in Montgomery County, to fill in a weak area in the SW part of the market...but not now.

Odd that KUVM would stay in analog when all the other Spanish language stations (including LPTV's 21 and 43) made the switch. Perhaps the flash cut is still on the way.

On a related note, apparently Qualcomm's FLO TV, which got a national service allocation for the now vacant channel 55, is supposed to launch in Houston this weekend. I am seeing what I think is digital snow on 55, so it may indeed be up and running. ION is taking advantage of the loophole, plain and simple. The full-power analog was definitely in Montgomery County since the only way to watch ION in Katy was through KBPX; Cypress was close enough to KPXB. The digital is supposedly in the Missouri City antenna farm along with the others.

I was surprised that KTBU moved their full-power analog to Missouri City after Ike. They should've done that 5-7 years ago instead. The only way I could watch High School Sports Live before that was through the cable system since 55 was fuzzy in Southern Houston. I never heard of the show until a friend mentioned that he likes to watch that on his cable.

KTRK, KNWS, and 45 (Univision)
 
KNWS-DT is there and obviously at very low power since I can only receive them with my CM 3021 outdoor antenna mounted in the attic. The indoor antennas will not receive the station at my place, even though I can see the tower farm from my back yard.
 
I realize this is a 4 year later reply... I don't think KNWS' stick is at the Missouri City antenna farm. Isn't it in Katy?

Everyone is at Missouri City now except the two K*HO low powers. They are on the JP Morgan Chase building downtown.
 
Someone told me the KQHO signed on, why are they ID as 56, I thought they were going to ID as 31, since it was displayed to 14, they have to use the 31:__, since KETH is on channel 31.



BTW, when KEHO signs on will it ID as channel 24
