Houston area radio notes (update thread)

K235CS 94.9 (KLVL translator in NW Harris County) has filed a Silent STA due to loss of lease at the current tower site. A check of 94.9 at my Cy-Fair location reveals a weak KRUT.

K235CS does have a CP to move to a location slightly east of the existing site.
K235CS is back on the air, presumably from the new location. Signal is now mono; not as strong as it previously was.

Both 101.7 translators are airing SOL radio.
Are you sure it’s the Pasadena translator? Cause I know the sol translator has (or at least had) 2 transmitters running. The downtown one running RDS and the one just north of there with an eastern directional pattern doesn’t have RDS

Not sure, I was on the Walmart Parking lot of I10 by Market St. But they have like a half second delay.

Does KMZZ 98.3 from Corpus Christi usually pick up this clear here in Crystal Beach? I’m here right now and it’s playing La Ley.

I’ve been hearing them a lot up here in Conroe since they moved to 98.3. Usually with RDS

Wow, drove all the way to Houston listening to 98.3 very clear. Some spots it would have some static noise. But overall pretty good. I wonder if this continues would SBS have anything to say about 2 La Leys here in Houston.

Most of Houston metro will hear KMIC translator K252FR on 98.3, not tropo from KMZZ, so not an issue.

I don’t know how much you checked the band but tropos was very strong this morning. Had super strong tropos in all directions with north not being as strong. Corpus & San Antonio were booming in. I even ended up getting some Arkansas

Have noticed that KYND 1520 has been mostly off the air at various checks the past two weeks, except for a couple of brief appearances where their audio quality and signal strength were quite poor. It appears they are having major transmitter trouble.

Does anybody know if KANI 1500 is on? I’ve been picking up their translator but haven’t heard the AM lately

You're right next to the coast. It's not unusual to hear stations from Louisiana or the Coastal Bend/RGV area since it's a straight shot over the water.

98.3 from Corpus Christi was always a common catch in Houston before the translator invasion. In the early to mid 2000s, the channel in Corpus Christi was occupied by a Tejano/Norteño hybrid station with English liners/imaging/jocks known as KLHB "Club 98.3".

KAMA-FM 104.9 has filed an application for a new auxiliary transmitter located atop the JP Morgan Chase tower in downtown Houston. Will use 7.4kw at 308 meters AGL.

Although this is being filed as an aux site, I suspect it may eventually be redesignated as the primary transmitter. The coverage area pretty much duplicates what they had from the former Ennis tower.

KMZZ is nowhere near being a regular catch in Houston, not to mention KULM/Columbus is in the way. And any 98.3 would get drowned out by adjacent KTJM in most of the metro anyway. So... SBS does not care.

The salt water can do amazing things, I've been to the beach and had Lake Charles or Corpus stations blasting in, drive over the dunes, and poof - they're gone.

I was in Crystal Beach, drove to Winnie Tx, then drove back to Houston, took beltway 8 from I10 all the way to 45 north. And hear little static only. Picking up pretty good with RDS also.

That is not a 24/7 occurrence though
