Both stations sound pale to me. Where's the Texas and Red Dirt Country? Adding some local stuff to the daily rotation wouldn't hurt. They were probably the last pair of stations in the state to play Randy Rogers Band when they took off. I always try to listen to stations like K-TEX 106 when I am in the outskirts of the city. Now that station has the right mix of country music.

I agree...KTEX 106 is a very good station...it serves the Brazos Valley very well by having "real" people with a sense of community as on air personalities, and a playlist that has some depth. Another great country station is 98.3 KORA...same scenario as KTEX...great jocks, great variety of music...and both are very easy to listen to..country radio like it SHOULD be.
 
I was probably one of them :p hehe. There's an old thread I started back around 05 or 06 where I was looking for help with KRBE history, that still gets replys
 
KORA is the reason I fell in love with Country music. Coming back to Houston, I was disgusted with what KILT and KKBQ were playing. It's as if they duplicate the national country charts and put it in their playlist. They are too mainstream.

Sadly, the day that we lose one of those stations is coming since the changing demographics of Houston aren't looking bright for country music. Having attended an Hispanic dominant High School in Harris country (2006), I can say that Hispanics in Houston aren't very fond of Country like they are in San Antonio, Bryan, and other parts of the state. With Hispanics, Asians, and other ethnicities who don't listen to country music on the rise, I think one of those stations may run out of gas soon. There's too many first generation Hispanics who care very little for what's considered a "gringo" format. :'(
 
Cox has hired Steve Smith as Obergruppenführer of Radio Programming--FINALLY! A real programmer! He just might agree with those of you sick of KILT-bashing as the centerpiece of KKBQ programming. Listeners may not be smart enough (or care enough) to realize that all it means when a station brags that they play the most music is that they don't have a good morning show, but this is the South. We be polite folk, and don't like hearing nasty comments about stations we like just as much as we like you. So yes, make it on the strength of your programming, such that it is. Get that morning twerp to run in another freaking marathon for charity--I always prefer hearing about that more than a hit song.
