So what would you say is actually interesting tiller
It's not so much about it being interesting as it is about entertaining. I don't hear any station creating any excitement. One of these days, the 'suits' will get it and swing that pendulum back to entertaining the audience through talented personalities, and expanded playlists.
106.9 The zone.. the polka station your parents don't want you to listen to...

Maybe "The Hook 106.9", the top 100 hits, only the hooks, back to back to back, playing more songs per hour than any other station. 10 second news and 5 second traffic and weather for the busy Houstonian. The Hook, 106.9 for listeners who don't have the time. And for electro-shock therapy listeners. A new radio format from the creators of Spud, the only beer brewed with potatoes for those who can't tell the difference. Void where prohibited (Idaho and 49 other states).

Mr ric. I 100% agree. I was looking at the ratings on here. Can't believe the numbers are so high considering the programming on it. The when I think about it... if you listen to this format at all what other options do you have??? Translation they win by default! As does majic 102.1 has been for years. so I agree.

They have country, classic country and classic hits here. In most of their markets where they have multiple stations, they seem to set things up to sell in combo, either by owning variations on a format from cradle to grave like 92.9 and 97.1, or by owning demos like men and women 25-54 in basically the same socio-econonomic group by pairing combos like hot AC and classic rock.
Since they have already set up the birth to death thing with country here, I think they'll do something rock oriented and younger leaning with 106.9. Active rock would allow them to pull from both The Buzz and The Arrow.
Cox has been known to put formats on lesser signals that were designed to take just enough shares away from a dominant station in a demo to make one of their other stations seem more attractive to agencies. Active rock would give them a vehicle to achieve several different goals. It just fits. The Eagle is the softer side of classic rock. Pairing it up with an active rock would give them a better shot at financial success by shaving Clear Channel's Buzz / Arrow combo.
