How did all the cursing on tv get the ok?

when it comes to foul language, why is it that the FCC tends to go after TV way more than it does with radio?

Not talking about Stern, Opie & Anthony, and those shock-jock mornign shows but the other syndicated shws that air in other dayparts and the many local announcers.

Tom Leykus for example uses the word "god-damn" A LOT, at least he did when his show was last heard here and it wasn't all that long ago.

The other weekend I was mowing the lawn, my next door neighbor was working on his car and had the local classic rock station playing from his radio. The jock on the air went on about how he likes to "use poppers", and how he couldn't wait to get home so he could "get off" using baby oil. Oh he also said that he had been "hard all day".

This was on a Saturday afternoon !!!

Whatever happen to just telling us the name of the song that was just played?

Whatever happened to jocks who remember to bring the baby oil to the studio with them and do the deed during some really long song that you didn't have to pay attention to? That guy could have saved himself hours of discomfort simply by being prepared. :)

Lately it seems like even the stations on basic cable are airing movies like "Blade" and "Saving Private Benjamin" uncut, and in the two episodes of the new series "Blade" on Spike tv that I watched, they use "sh*t" like some shows use "d*mn".
[snip....]
I don't want to get into a discussion about who wants what when and how, or how it's somebody's fault etc;. I just want to know what changed that this is now acceptable.

As for Spike TV, cable stations have much greater latitude in what they can air. As for broadcast stations, they still must watch what they air particularly during the "family" hours.
True, but even cable networks such as Spike TV & main rival FX have their limits. They just happen to be further out than most.

Cheers :D

Sometimes a curse word or two is OK to emphasize a very important point but it's over the top. With freedom comes responsibility.......
