How is 96ROCK doing in Dayton?

And that "contemporary rock" you're talking about is not attracting listeners anywhere from the numbers I've been seeing and hearing about.

You must not have looked very hard or far. Seems to be performing quite well for 102.7 WEBN for the time being. In a rust belt market such as Dayton, I'd rather be playing crunchy rock than wimpy indie/alt rock.

There are many areas of the country where it does not perform well, but hard rock formats seem to have better staying power in many midwestern markets.

Crunch rock...yes.

Crunchy classic rock tends to be a little more like it here.

And the newer stuff is not doing as well across all areas of the country as some might think. That's why the format is being dropped by stations.

WEBN's ratings have been pretty bad lately from what I've seen and heard...

A 5 share in ages 6+ (likely much better than that in core male demos) is bad?!!!!

Their ratings have risen nicely since modernizing the playlist.

I do agree that hard alternative / nu metal worked a lot better 10 - 12 years ago than it does today, generally speaking. That said, there are still markets where there remains a substantial appetite for the product.

You are right that Classic Rock is king in Dayton (with regard to the rock genre). That certainly explains WTUE's longevity and consistent ratings success.

The only potential issue for WTUE, Mark...are increasingly aging demos.

Recall that the rock format is having problems in a number markets, with the format being dropped in a number of areas.

WEBN, I know has been making efforts at modernizing. Still, a drop from it's historically high 8 shares (threatening sister WLW at one time for market dominance) to the low and mid 4's is a substantial drop. They had competition then, too most of the time. I'm sure the male demo numbers were a lot higher when they had a 12 plus 8 share.

Considering WEBN's bottom was around a 3.0 before the playlist update and line-up changes, I'd say they've recovered nicely.

They are beating 92-5 The Fox.
