How long before News/Talk 104.7 hits No. 1?

I THINK WPGB Has One Pgh Reporter...

I'm pretty sure I've heard a non-Cleveland-based "reporting" voice on WPGB. Can't remember the guy's name, but Tom Moore or whoever was anchoring has tossed to someone I didn't recognize as being from the CC/WTAM stable in Cleveland.

I don't know if he's just in-house to gather and turn around phone audio and reports for the Cleveland anchors, or if he goes out and does field reporting, but I'm pretty sure he's in Pgh.

I have to agree with you on that one. It's very difficult for anyone to not know that talk station WPGB exists at 104.7, and that it features Quinn, Limbaugh, and Hannity. Using solid promotions to attract listeners to sample your station, and then offering good programming once they get there is about the best one-two combination for building listenership that's ever been invented.

In fact, at least a couple of Clear Channel's Pittsburgh staffers voice reports for FM News Talk 104.7. Their names escape me as well ... but two of their reports were good enough to win Associated Press awards this year.

WKTQ-AM

Uh, let's set THIS record straight...when WKTQ did this it was simulcasting at the time with what's now WSHH, and that happened for only its first few months. As soon as the FM was separated from it (as was required by the FCC at that time; they had a waiver allowing them to simulcast for a few months), ratings plummeted. It did, however, ultimately kill off KQV as a Top 40. I don't think anyone would ever call KDKA a Top 40 under any circumstances. In the 60s, it might have approached what some back then called "chicken rock" (roughly what we know as AC today).

WPGB, however, has a much better shot today than anyone in the 70s ever had. KD is so much less of a factor now thanks to Infinity's emasculation of it. Who would have thought little WYDD would have ultimately amounted to this? They sound very good, even with the handicap of non-locals in some dayparts(Beck is so insincere). The station has great energy and really stands out in its character, while KD sounds just "dead" between segments. (BTW, it pains me to say this, as, IMHO, WPGB's senior corporate programmer is the sleaziest excuse for a management official ever to step into any radio station and should be driven from the industry like a cancer from a sick body.)

And they don't do WWVA, either.
