How long can LIVE 105.3 keep doing this

3. Thats a good question, B&S arent too shabby, but people in this market want more than they really deserve, this is Dallas, not NYC or LA. These two are a good fit and people should just suck it up already.

4. BDH is about one of the only talents that was left at the station that didnt annoy or beat you down with tired redneck schtick. Rick "Disco Duck" Dees can recognize quality when he sees it, im only shocked BDH wasnt offered something much sooner

This isn't meant as a hit against B&S but will you listen to what you just said? We should just STFU and listen to whatever crap the corporation thinks we deserve? That is quite a marketing strategy.

BDH beats us down with his hipster schtick. Rick Dees assisted in the corporatization of radio programming. He is part of the problem, and I suspect his syndication proteges won't buck the system that has been Dees' bread and butter all these years.

Albert, you lost me. You just said that we shouldn't just accept what they give us, then blasted bdh for being a "hipster....." (whatever). I think the point was/is, at least what I am getting from all this, is that B&S is a corporate decision and one based on finance, not quality. BDH has a unique show that has gotten attention from outside DFW (good for him).

What are you trying to say? What is the beef with Dees? He isn't Corporate, is he?

I was shocked CBS corp didnt sent in the shock troops post-RMS incident. Spittle & Henry havent handled up accordingly with their managment duties.

Albert, yes I recognize that, but ya know what, in alot of ways ive gotten tired of people expeciting us to be a LA/NYC when it comes to programming. I would rather us build up decent home-grown talent, be it local or state-based, than farm it out to a syndicated show thats east/west coast-bias

Also, BDH has a loyal following, last time I checked the Albert19x show wasnt pulling any numbers ;) All kidding aside, this guy has busted his hump from his ticket days to present. He deserves an opportunity to expand, as he'll probably keep it local.

I was making two separate points, plastic. I was questioning SB's statement that the DFW market should accept its second class status and be happy with second rate programming. It's a "Quit Yer Bitchin', Losers!" stance that I'm guessing wouldn't fly in any other industry's marketing plan. Would you buy a laundry detergent whose advertising message was "It's Good Enough For The Likes Of You"?

The second point was that there are many types of schtick. SB, like myself, is tired of redneck schtick. I am also annoyed by hipster schtick, and BDH is hipster schtick. I've never personally listened to Rick Dees, just seen him on TV and had to live through the excreable Disco Duck craze. However, he's been a very successful L.A. DJ for 30 years and I suspect he hasn't survived all these years by being the corporate rebel.

SB, I agree with you about keeping it local. I just don't think that necessarily translates into second-tier talent. We disagree on this, but I thought P&K at their best was comparable to NY/LA talent I've heard firsthand. I've never been much of a fan of the Stern/O&A style of sex and dwarf-centric radio show, and Tom Leykis can munch my ballsack. Having lived in both NY and LA I can say DFW's local origination content is no worse than anything on the either coast.

Again, I'm not saying BDH is a bad guy or a slacker at his job. This is same the argument about how hard working Eric is. That doesn't translate into on air talent. Sure, BDH has a following. So did P&K and there are posters here who are pissing on their graves. In my opinion BDH is a tiresome, long-winded hipster who unfortunately occupied the broadcast chair of the only non-religion/political/sports talk station in town at the time of day I am most likely to listen. Rick Dees' decision to sign him up doesn't make him any more palatable to me. I wish him luck with his future endeavors as long as those endeavors don't include me having to listen.

And for teh record, the Albert19X Show would kick ass!

Slam m Albert, good points both..THIS is what I am talking about! Stupid question, we all agree that it sucks...and if we don't do anything about it, it will continue...how do you think the listeners can change this?

Short of firebombing and huey newton-style armed brothers in the streets...im fresh out of ideas ;)

We could start by reimposing limits on the number of media outlets one corporation could own in any given market. Short of that I'm at a loss. I've never been part of listener polling but my impression is potential listeners must choose from a given number of song/programming options. If my choices are limited to crap songs/options then even the most extensive listener research is going to yield crap results.

So it almost seems like a Rick Dees, a non corporate player signing up and coming talent could be a good thing. I suppose it comes down to desire and resources...If you have both, you can make a difference. I am now a Rick Dees fan.

So the question today is, how long will Ben and Skin survive on Live 1053? BDH did a remarkable job in mid days. Now we have a fill in show from the ticket doing a daily 41/2 hour show...that is a LOT of contenet to come up with. I predict huge percentage gains on the phones after week one...and you know how entertaining the listeners can be...Gavin should have just hired them.

well after those ratings with live having a 1.6 the question is can they do worse?
I'm guessing they could go a little lower..

Ren and Stimpy, that is really lame. You would think Russ could come up with something more creative, no wait... Let's see if we can get Howard or Bubba to throw one out there, then Russ can claim it as his...

I have an answer for this question: As long as CBS is content in making Live 105.3 #1 among all Domestic Abusers in the Dallas Ratings.

So I gave up on the RMS a couple years ago - and today a guy i know tells me yesterday on the show they were talking about how Trey is staying with Russ and came in to work with stitches on his cheek and his nose. Anybody here that? If true, did he forget to contact the IRS too????
