How long does 92.3 Now Have?

If what first-time poster @broadcastergeek is true and that there is "a major format change" waiting in the wings... If you're going to put an end to "Now," you might as well start the simulcast of WFAN already. Why wait until ESPN gets an FM stick, and why flip to another music format and give ESPN more motivation to jump to FM? Kill their buzz... yes, it'll take away an additional revenue stream... but spoken word is where the money is these days - if done right... and CBS Radio has been doing just that in Market No. 1.

That sounds like a personal backlash to Now, which I feel is not going away from 92.3 anytime soon.
 
Things might have happened in what could be called "bad timing" but I believe VERY STRONGLY that 92.3 Now isn't going anywhere soon. CBS Radio invested too much money in this and perhaps backhandedly they must've thought, back then about the possibility of WFAN going on 92.3 (or maybe 102.7). Until the FCC forces AM out of existence, there is still something to be said about talk formats being left on the AM and not migrating over to FM (with the exception of HD)
 
The website DCRTV.com, which reports on radio doings in the D.C. area, has a rumor attributed to "a source" that Chunky will soon be leaving 92.3 Now. It asserts that he has been picked to be the morning personality at CBS' urban leaning WPGC in the nation's capital. He would be replacing Big Tigger, who left the slot last December.
It seems unusual for an owner such as CBS, to offer a DJ in market #1 a position at a sister station in a significantly smaller one. Perhaps, if true, this is another indication that 92.3 Now is in for at least a significant format adjustment.
 
I also heard a rumor from someone who works at Now that Buster may be leaving for a night host position at another CBS radio station.

I worked at a station who tried it in 1993. We took the station over with a 1.9 and rode it all the way to 0.9 with 2 Unlimited, Hip Hop Hurrah, and Rock & Roll Part 2.

What's worse was the owner of the station was serious. He thought it would really work.

Or it may be that, strategically, the morning position in DC is more important than the evening shift in NY... and it likely pays many times better, too.

Moving from an evening or even mid-day or afternoon position in a larger market to mornings in a smaller market is not unusual historically.

I realize that it is not unusual for someone to leave a large market station for a smaller one, especially for a more high profile daypart, and higher pay.
But it does seem less common for a broadcast firm to make the offer for a personality at one of their major market stations to move to one of their others, in a smaller market.
It also seems odd that CBS offered Chunky the morning slot at WPGC, instead of the newly available morning time period at 92 Now. Along with tepid ratings and the recent departure of the PD, this gives me the impression that a format change is quite possible in the near future.

It has happened before with Clear Channel. In 2004 96.1 Kiss in Pittsburgh offered Mikey and Big Bob the morning show position while they were working nights at Q102 in Philadelphia. They accepted that offer almost immediately. They're still doing mornings at 96.1 in Pittsburgh. In fact, just 2 weeks ago as I was driving from NYC to Minneapolis, I heard their morning show for the first time as I was driving through 96.1 Kiss' coverage area.
 
Anyone notice how 92.3's audio has gotten worse lately, along with the imaging?

Dom's gone for only a few weeks and already the station starts to hit the skids...
 
I thought may be it was their stream? it's really just the quality of the production... ick -- I'll check that out beginning tomorrow while I'm home for Spring break. Today they finally updated the main page of their website for the first time since announcing Nick's departure. UGH... if its not flipping then they need a PD to get in there and whip everyone into shape cause damn!

agreed. They would be an awesome fit. Haven't heard them since Pulse.
Something may be up with NOW but I don't believe they'll flip. A second CHR in this market is a good idea to compete against Z100 but they need to tweak NOW and make it into a serious CHR and not something laughable.
They should take a page out of AMP's book in LA. They both signed on around the same time and look at AMP's ratings. Apparently CBS spent all it's money on AMP and left NOW in the dust!
