Thats funny because the book before that (SP08) KZON was ranked 4 spots ahead of KKFR 18-34 and i didnt see all this big chest talk then. btu all of a sudden you have a better book and you run the radio landscape. fact of the matter is if you go back over 4 books KZON beats KKFR 2-1 and tied in the Winter 08 book.

Why all the back and forth spat about past books and trends?

Even in the most recent ranks for P 18-34 where KKFR is #4 and KZON is #6, the number difference is by 0.6 of a share.

Now KKFR is no longer "Where Hip Hop Lives"
I think this was a mistake for KKFR. They were finally back on the radar. Now they make a major image change that may confuse or upset their listeners, giving them less reason to fight through the static.

KZON should let KKFR have their copycat image and just keep preparing for PPM and their real competitor KZZP.

Image change or not, it sure sounds like Hip Hop still lives at KKFR.

Unfortunately, up in Seattle, Clear Channel's KUBE, who happens to be a Rhythmic with a Hip-Hop heay playlist, has used "The Number 1 Hit Music Station" slogan for years and they still beat CBS' Top 40/CHR rival KBKS.

As for Katy Perry's "Hot 'N Cold," that song is also on the R&R/BDS Rhythmic Top 40 chart and climbing as of this posting. BTW "I Kissed a Girl" peaked at #15 on the aforementioned chart.

Would you kzon apologists please stop your station is so god awful and worthy of being banned from phoenix god i wish i could get to happen.Kzon is adisaster and failure but everyone knows that nothing will save them i look forward to there flip and it won't come to soon for that failure of aradio station piece of f##% crap

I bet the powers that be at KZON (pun FULLY intended) know how to punctuate...and don't fixate on things nearly as much.

How can KZON even claim to be "the valley's #1 hit music station," when they are behind both Power and 104.7 KISS FM in the ratings? I have seen no evidence that they have been #1 in anything. Isn't this false advertising on their part? :eek:

Well, no station is allowed to (or should) hve the same slogan, so it's easy to be #1 at anything you want to be because no one else is saying they are number 1 in that, too. It's kind of a slick way to do things. 102.7 KIIS FM in Los Angeles is La's #1 Hit music Station, and they're the only station I see out of all I've discussed that appropriately uses that slogan. 104.7 should have kept it. JamZ, although they are a bit close, still don't seem to be "#1 hit music station-ish". If they add in the new Britney and P!NK along with the Katy Perry and Kevin Rudolph they are playing, then it would look and sound more appropriate for them, but 104.7 Kiss FM in reality is the real hit music station, just like All the hits Q100 in Atlanta is their real hit music station and the other station 95.5 The Beat changed to Atlanta's #1 for Hip Hop. Atlanta's REAL hip hop station Hot 107.9 plays even more hip hop than 95.5 The Beat and stays away from dance songs even if it's by Pitbull or Rihanna or Ne-yo, so in a way it makes sense. For some odd reason, Hot 107.9 doesn't use "where HIP HOP Lives" when they are even more urban than New York's Hot 97. Very odd.

They have Star*94 which is an alternative leaning top 40 station that already has and has been holding strongly to the slogan "Atlanta's #1 hit music station", but everyone really knows it's Q100. All that top 40 alternative in Star*94 does not beat the hits on Q100 that are blowing up on a national and international scale. So I guess, anyone can use a slogan and be what they wish. It all depends on what you consider hits. Nickelback is a top 40 hit in some states and sometimes it's just alternative/rock in other places that don't make it to the hit stations.

on that note, earlier today when they were talking about britney spears CD release on kzzp, the person on air (dont remember who it was around 3PM) ALSO called 104.7 the valleys #1 hit music station, in a sarcastic wayy, lol. wow cause the title is oh-so-great.

As far as all this arguing between KKFR, KZZP, and KZON,

101.5 Jamz is not a hip hop station. It was meant to be

* KZZP - top 40
* KKFR - urban
* KZON - rhythmic

JamZ came in with the idea of being rhythmic, which was something we've been missing in the valley for quite some time. Rhythmic top 40 doesn't really count... and urban rhythmic with a rhythmic top 40 still doesn't really fill the gap. It should have been top 40, urban, and rhythmic, but it seems like instead everyone became rhythmic or wants a rhythmic sounding slogan. Kiss should have just kept the #1 hit music slogan since they fit the most appropriate definition of hit music. If Nickelback makes a hit song, they'll be the only one to play that hit. If Cascada makes a hit song, they're the only ones who would...well, consider it. Hits & Hip Hop was very appropriate for KZON and it would make sense that anyone who uses #1 hit music station slogan should then go ahead and add P!NK, Britney, and Katy Perry into their playlist to make it more accurate. At least 2 out of the three.

Kiss has always been labelled top 40, but chose to go more rhythmic
Power has always been rhythmic, but chose to go more urban
JamZ came in with the intent to be rhythmic. So far that's all they've done.

I guess 103.9 Arizona's Party Station should have just stuck around. That probably would've taken care of JamZ and Club 95 Latino Vibe, but still I have nothing but repsect for JamZ regardless of whether or not it's my favorite music because their entire staff are respectful.... well at least towards me. 95.1 and 98.7 too. Out of all, those two stations seem to have the most respectful staff when it comes to talking over the phone and meeting in person. Even 99.9 KEZ has a bit of attitude sometimes...

I think that about sums it up....you have gotta be the only person on here that actually calls stations to buddy up with the jocks. I didn't even do that when i was 14!

It has nothing to do with buddying up or friendship or anything of that sort....

If you work for KZON. Just hours after KKFR switched slogans, they switched to copy them. I'm serious!

Besides losing in ratings and billing, they fire key staff it seems like once a week and hire "has been" talent and now they sit around and can only react to KKFR.

What's the point?

KZON actually had this in place first...the info leaked and KKFR tried to make it seem like they did it first...fyi...i thought everyone knew this by now????

And to comment on the "has been" talent...Strawberry is hardly a has been...he brings fresh energy to this city...not to mention all that he does for the community...is anyone else sleeping in a cold bus for 7 days straight?? get back at me when another stations personality does that....snake has proven himself in phoenix over and over...nuff said...and Sugabear...its about time he got recognized...people love him and all that he brings to KZON and phoenix in general...

quit hatin...its not cute ;)

From what i am hearing KZON Filed for that slogan a couple weeks ago before KKFR flipped.

You are right...that is exactly what happened...somehow the plan got into the wrong hands...

Why do you feel obligated to defend them.I liked kzon when they were alt and when they were talk but i hate the fact they filled a hole that was not needed in phoenix and they are very bad at it!!!I like power i like kiss so leave the hip hop to peeps that have been doin it.

why do you feel so obligated to hate on them so much??? oh...thats right, because they are better than power...deal with it...

and they were/are needed...something in the middle of power (who is slowing losing its grip) and kiss...

Another KZON staffer figures out how to use the computer!

You would think they had better things to do than defend a losing station. Another round of cuts and format flips are coming, what lies have they told you about your job being safe?

And feel free to search the State of Arizona for filings on the phrase in dispute, you won't find KZON on any of them, just like you don't see the phrase on their banners, billboards or vans. Who is fooling who?

You will make a great lawyer. As Al Gore said, "When you have the facts on your side, argue the facts. When you have the law on your side, argue the law. When you have neither, holler."

Keep yelling zonie! And the great talent at night you keep promoting is in 3rd place, behind... you guessed it, KKFR and KZZP.

That you aren't passionate enough about your job to reach out to those have broadcast to you, when you were 14 or now, doesn't not make you cool, it makes you another disappointing person who has a job in radio to have a job instead of because it is your life's dream.

I truly feel sorry for you, and your listeners.
