How to fix the NBA

A 12 ft goal would be counterproductive. My thought was that an 11 ft goal would bring a few smaller men into the game who, as shown in the playoffs, can make some very exciting plays. Plus there would be an increased emphasis on rebounding and team play.
But what do I know??

Even though 12 ft would probably cut down on dunks for a couple years until they get the hang of it, I was just dreaming out loud too there. :)

No chest thumping
No dangling from the hoop
No excessive celebration
No thug behavior
No slam dunking
No playing ball with your mouth wide open and your tongue hanging out
No orgies after the game
No molesting women
No getting thrown in jail
No crazy clothes or weird haircuts
No acting like a diva
No acting like a fool on or off the court

As they used to say on "Family Feud" - "GOOD ANSWER." I could not agree with you more. The bad boy image associated with the NBA has got to go.

Since the slam-dumk contest is an integral part of All Star Weekend, as well as one thing fans come to see, the chances of the basket being raised are somewhat less than zero. The NBA markets dunking. You think they want to change?

Yeah, let's turn it into something that makes a cricket match look down-and-dirty.

"Hey, I say ol' chap, that was quite a display of athletic prowess. Perhaps we can meet at the club after this game and hoist a non-alcoholic beverage in celebration."

"Why thank you, good sir. Though to be honest, I'm interested in trying one of the new spirited drinks I hear the young, hip crowd talking about. Would you be open to trying an appletini?"

"Oh my, well, I suppose one drink won't lead to any unseemly behavior. Jolly good, then, that it shall be."

I'm just sayin..... ;)

Brief answer to a brief question:

Shorten the season!

Basketball in mid-June? Absurd. The playoffs should start within a week after the NCAA final four is concluded and it should be finished up within a month. Make the games count for more and each will be more important. Right now, there are too many 'throw away' games during the regular season. Snipping a bunch of games out of the schedule would do the trick. Right now, John Q. Public is burned out on basketball by now and doesn't care unless he is a Lakers or a Celts fan.

Don't .... watch.... the.... games.

Solved that problem.

oh, closed circuit to Cleveland. Youre close to being "LeBroned"...signed, a former Milwaukee Bucks fan who jot "Jabbared" in the mid 70s.

That's not demonstrably true. Here are the ratings for Sunday's Game 5 (more than 18 million, best in five years) in comparison to previous Finals' Game 5 matchups, some without Boston or L.A. Now compare that to this year's Duke/Butler NCAA championship game, which drew almost 24 million viewers--but it merely put a happy cap on the fourth lowest rated NCAA Tournament (overall).

You're absolutely right that the other pro sports (especially the NFL) have just as many bad guys as the NBA.

Bull! Although the NFL does have its share of brainless idiots the overall percentage is substantial less than that of the NBA. And check out the NHL, golf, tennis, WNBA, MLB, etc. - you won't find them there because their respective organizations don't tolerate that crap. The NBA has marketed itself as an urban street-thug league.

I thought it interesting this year's NHL Stanley Cup finals were a hot item at local (Knoxville, TN - not your normal ice hockey town) sports bars; much more so than I've ever seen in the past. .
