We all know KABC needs some help. What would you do to KABC to make it a ratings winner?

KLAA is a joke run by former billboard executives. They have absolutely no clue how to run or sell a radio station and it shows.Big E said:4UH8SIMBKAGN said:KABC is not a sports station and never will be. Just cuz you dont like the Raiders doesnt mean others wouldnt listen. The Chargers arent an LA team, yet they're on KLAC, Notre Dame isnt an LA team, yet they're on KLAA. Citadel is becoming just like CC, trying to cut costs while trying to sell anything possible. I beleive my suggestions offer the best possible scenario to sell. Im sure KFI is beatable, but without spending money, it wont happen.

These three sports would not conflict with each other. Then they could do food, travel, automotive, and whatever on the weekends when there is no sports programming. Lets face it, KABC will never compete with KFI in the political arena or news. But it can compete with the other sports station in LA because each would have their own audience. What do you think?
Marc Germain, former Mr. KABC, is on www.talkradioone.com 8-10 PM weeknights. KABC needs to move forward not go to their past. They should have hired John Ziegler after KFI fired him. Make sure you don't look at him while he's on the air or he'll have a fit.hotpatrick2004 said:No sports please this country has enough 24/7 sports stations!!!Hire mr k back and john ziegler. Both would be a plus!!!
KABC does not air informercials during the week. Only on weekend overnights.Lee Anderson said:One word... LOCALIZE. Combine news with local information and entertainment. Sure you can cover the big national issues, but try and find a local slant on the big picture. It may even help if they can lighten it up a bit. Find hosts who know how to mix it up.
Finally, kill infomercials during overnight hours (better still, full stop). They might be cash cows, but they really do cheapen the product, and don't give shift workers a reason to listen. Consider this, if there are (say) 3 million people listening to radio overnight, who many (listeners) could you get if you running informercials versus a live/local jock? Add to that a live/local jock overnight can set the agenda if something big happens on their watch.
For one, it is on FM. Los Angeles has much more local talk and news competition both on radio and television.evalmaster said:I think a good standard to look at for a talk station is WKXW in New Jersey. I realize it is not playing to a big city like Los Angeles, but they have managed to broaden their appeal to make it one of the top rated stations in NJ. It is totally local and get a much younger demographic then most talk stations. Why cant this concept work elsewhere?

ChannelFlipper said:The ironic thing is that KFI has laid the roadmap out for them, all they have to do is follow it. You know, if you can't beat 'em, join em. Or in this case, replicate as closely as possible. Would they ever overtake KFI doing this? Probably not. But would they be better positioned than they are now? Most definitely.
DavidEduardo said:Signal, signal, signal. 5 kw on 790 can not compete with 50 kw on 640. The usable 10 mv/m signal of KFI covers about 14 million, while that of KABC does about 7 million. Any lesser signal is not competitive in LA.
