They certainly don't carry PPM's. Talk/personalities build loyalty and habit and chatter.

Ummm...over 50 would be eight figures....in fact anything at least 10,000,000 is eight figuresMacker said:I've been thinking about this. Kidd Chris is an amazing talent. I've been following him since he did afternoons on WYSP. He's killer. He's a lot like Howard but younger, more energetic and a better fit for the younger demo. Howard would bring in HUGE HUGE ratings, in my opinion. He hates Sirius and said recently on air something like "can't they just stop paying me and let me leave". Although that could just be schtick. I still agree that there is no way they can afford him, even if he can get out of his contract. I think, if anything, he would do his own thing on iTunes. The guy can buy a radio station if he really wanted (but I doubt he'd want to go through all of the trouble, plus FCC bs). An earlier poster said O&A are making "high 7 figures". What is "high"? I'd say less than 10mil altogether. I consider "high 7 figures" to be over 50, which would be the middle of 7 figures. I think it's possible, but I think their style and format has changed so much that it would take a while to adjust back into the terrestrial format of constant breaks and intro'ing tracks (if music were to be integrated into it). They've developed a huge following worldwide and I don't think NYC remembers them well enough nor do they have the nostalgia that Stern had, being a staple for 20+ years. They'd definitely have to rebuild a lot of audience again.

1997 was a different landscape than radio now. What worked then on BCN won't fly today.

Not in PPM.
Stern's cume was something like 8th or 9th in NY and LA in the diary, but with great.. nay, humongous... TSL, he was at the top in NY and second in LA.
The PPM just does not register those non-stop 3 and 4 hour listening spans. 12 minutes is more like it. So Stern could likely not even make the top 10 today in any of the majors.
it appears that many indirectly cite Opie and Anthony's failure on FM as the reason they think Stern would flop if he came back as well. Some differences that poke holes in that idea include O and A never reached critical mass that Stern did and they failed on fm partially because they came back phoning it in. They sounded un prepped and winging it relying on their rep rather than putting in work. There's no telling how Stern would do in the post PPM world because he's always defied odds in terms of ratings the bulk of his career. The evidence does indicate that he would not have the same sort of listening that he once did because PPM results look like they favor the quick break. Still you would think that this can't apply to talk formatted shows because then talk radio would cease to exist whether it's Hannity or Boomer and Carton whatever, in short Someone doing talk is managing to get ratings in PPM. Howard has not been battle tested under PPM. im sure he does not want the headache but given his audience's fierce loyalty he might just be the one show that defies the PPM logic. doubtful that you'll ever find out.
