Howie Carr vs. Emily Rooney

"I’m not a big fan of Howie Carr. I was a fan of Don Imus. I like Jay Severin. I like Michael Graham. I don’t think any of those guys, in their hearts, are mean-spirited. I think Howie is. I think his viciousness is genuine."

"The question is, what does it do for ’TKK in the morning? Because is that where I’m going to go? I was an Imus junkie. I really enjoyed the repartee, and I enjoyed the interviews. I liked the whole shtick."

"They’re [Howie's audience] not going to be up at 6 in the morning."

How many listeners are tuning into WTKK for Emily Rooney?

>>I was an Imus junkie

"I'd rather listen to the classy guys who call female basketball players 'nappy headed hos'"
Well, get a job with the "corpse in a cowboy hat" (as Howie calls him), Emily "Thanks Dad" Rooney.
D'jever wonder who...really...cares? ;D

Howie's viciousness toward hack politicians and criminals is indeed genuine, ma'am, and that's why we
like him. Well, most of us do. She is right, though, about at least one member of Howie's audience
not being up at 6 in the morning. That's because I'm sorting mail till 2:30 in the morning and need my
sleep and thus will have to record Howie's new show (if it ever happens) on my comp. to hear later.
But many people will be able to hear Howie in the morning, even though you, Ms. Rooney, are
probably considering them the same way Leona Helmsley considered anyone who wasn't rich
("only the little people pay taxes"). Stuffy attitude, anyone? Rah-ther...

>>Rooney: My biggest fear in the world is boring people.

Same here. So I'm really scared of you, Emily ::)

Emily Rooney is right on target and she doesn't need to kiss up to Carr or anyone else. Think she gets her direct approach from her father, Andy Rooney.

Howie hates to see anyone else succeed and he has an almost evil reflux to put down anyone who he thinks might be more successful than he.

Go do a search of the old Herald from ten years ago when he started using the Herald 'Street Walkers' aka The Inside Track girls to go after Jerry Williams the person to whom Carr owes his career. Without Jerry Williams Carr would have been just another ink stained wretch.

So, Emily Rooney is right on. Put her in the same league as Edward R. Murrow going after 'Tailgunner' Joe McCarthy(R) Wisconsin

btw, if you subscribe (free!) to Taylor on radio-info, read what he has to say about a talk host who
makes a lot more money and has a lot more listeners than some former radio producers who enjoy
posting on radio discussion boards (*whistles)...the bidding war for HC continues (He's not boring!
as Jerry would say) and this is "bidness"--and the long and short of it is Howie wants OUT of the
sneaker building, and Greater Media is giving him his chance. ("I ’m told that Howie, at this point, just wants out. And Greater Media has offered him this potential goldmine.")
Even though much of his salary would depend on incentives.

Speaking of hating to see anyone succeed, Casa must LOVE how well Howie is doing! :)

Yes, Jerry was the man who helped Howie get in the business. But if it hadn't been for him I'm
sure eventually he would have found his way into radio.
Rooney = Murrow? That's like comparing Imus to Howie! :)

Best...or "Worst"? one liner from "Hatchet Face" Rooney spewed on that nest of Limo Libs and Black bigots "Not So greater boston"... some years ago,... on talk radio...before I might add she deighned to get into it was...."Now if they ONLY get rid of the callers!" Her and her tennis club crowd.....Pure Moonbats!

Now, let's not disparage Emily's looks, only her opinions. :) The latest bit at SaveWRKO.com has
Maloney wondering if maybe Severino is OVERpaid, or Howie UNDERpaid by Entercom. HC beat
Severin last time period. In fact I think Severino hasn't won for awhile and they're throwing a cool
million a year at him. Someone did note on the comments btw that Jay and Grahamcrackers were
talking on air and I think Jay referred to his "temp" gig in mornings till "someone else comes over"

So, Emily Rooney is right on. Put her in the same league as Edward R. Murrow going after 'Tailgunner' Joe McCarthy(R) Wisconsin

Just wondering, but what possible connection to you see between Rooney sniping at Carr, and Murrow finally getting around to working over McCarthy, except that they both came to the party when it was too late to have any influence on events?

This should be interesting.

Thanks in advance.

To be exact, Howie owes his career in radio to the late Norma Nathan who set him up to interview Jerry Williams in July of 1982 because she could not since her husband, the late, great Norm Nathan was still the morning man at WRKO. To her dying day and his both Norma and Norm regretted that move. I think Howie eventually turned on Norma as well as Jerry.
As Jerry would say, "Not, a nice guy." For all of Jerry's bluster and bravado and short comings he was really a nice guy. Or as Jerry would also say in response to his haters of whom there were many, "to know me is to love me."

Yeah...real nice guy...conning the dopes that listened the he was a pitbull on "banana nose Malone" all the while angling for a yob for the bim he was bonin'... typical leathery letcherous old goat...in cuban heels and cowboy shirt! and no I'm not an old "bitty" ;D

Andy Rooney is a Don Imus sycophant... as for Emily, well she does keep herself in pretty good shape for someone who is probably well past 50. And her "Beat The Press" panel show is the one night of the week that "Greater Boston" is worth seeing. Whenever a local radio issue breaks, it's fun to see the panel knock it around. My wife calls her "Ms. Unctuous." I also thought it was hilarious when she referred to the Pats' defensive back as "Samuel Asante."

Favorite moronic line from Emily Rooney, "its not the taxpayers money, it belongs
to the government", for some someone who thinks of herself as being s-oooo smart I seem to recall from civics courses early on that government is made up of the citizen taxpayers.
The government creates nothing nor owns anything, all belong to the citizens
of the United States.
Sorry Emily time to take high school freshman Civics again.

This excerpt from Braude is worth calling out:

"However, it’s the end of WRKO [Carr’s previous station]; it’s great for Jay Severin, because there’s no competition now. And it ends the career of the least-talented talk-show host in American history, Tom Finneran."

In truth, WRKO isn't Carr's 'previous' station; it's his current one. The dust hasn't settled and WTKK hasn't announced him as 'theirs' yet. But the bullet-between-the-eyes is Braude flat-out saying 'it's the end of WRKO.'

And the shotgun-to-the-face of Finneran was fabulous! 'Least-talented talk-show host in America.'

There, he said it.

I wouldn't expect any less Hibernian bigotry from someone named Father Coughlin a defrocked Roman Catholic priest.
BTW, for the record I am a practicing and faithful RC but not a bigot.

Just wondering, but when was Father Coughlin defrocked?

Nor, it would appear, a student of recent history.

Chris, why would you expect anything less from a WTKK employee (Braude)?

Greater Media specializes in such Dewey beats Truman-like pronouncements. Look at the "signing" of Howie before Howie is legally permitted to sign. Then there was the Red Sox on WBOS deal that was all but done until it wasn't. They were actually offering jobs to sports sales people before they had an agreement. What station are the Sox on again? I think its the "dead" WRKO.

Why wouldn't he take a shot at Finneran, but what does it say when his own station ranks only two places ahead of "the least talented talk show host in the country" or whatever Braude called him?

Try not to be overly influenced by Captain Pajamas and his anti-Entercom, anti-reality rants. CBS, Clear Channel, Greater Media and Entercom all have a clue about what they are doing and they are competing. I think radio in general should start taking more chances and breaking some traditional rules, but don't put too much stock in the bloggings of frustrated talent with limited appeal and even more limited knowledge about the business side of radio.

I know (and others do, too) that Braude is a charisma-challenged, angry Liberal. He needs to stick with the channel no one watches--NECN--because everyone rises to the level of their own incompetence. NECN is clearly his ceiling. Watching Chet Curtis and Braude wear their utter liberalism on their sleeves makes for fun watching during the 30-60 seconds spent channel-surfing during the commercial breaks on other networks.

But as a card-carrying Liberal, I figured that Braude would cut a fellow Massachusetts card-carrying (ex-) Liberal politician some slack...whether he's now a radio host or otherwise. The 'Birds-of-a-feather' psychology, don't you know.

I'll tell ya how charisma-challenged Braude is. He manages to group Carr and Finneran listeners (and nobody knows how un-liberal Finneran is better than Braude) as a collection of mean-spirited, brain-dead, conservative yahoos and actually get one of the folks he's insulting to agree with him!

Just amazing. It's enough to give brain-death a bad name.

P.S. please never stop ChrisNH, your posts are by far the most entertaining on this board!
