Huckabee is a welcome relief

His show was carried on 96.5 for a brief time when they launched Supertalk FM. Then they went local with Andy Furman.

I still think Cumulus should have stuck with Supertalk a little while longer, even though 96 Rock is doing great now. I admire WQRT's effort, but if they don't get on FM somehow and soon, it doesn't bode well for them in the long run. Talk radio on FM is the future, and Cincinnati doesn't always have to be twenty years behind the times all the time! :D

New/Talk is a slow build. Supertalk pulled the plug one book too soon. That last book turned out to be pretty impressive... BUT, when you have lots of debt, you cannot afford to wait for a format to catch on. Seems to me that their billings were around 150K per month when they ditched the format. IMO, Cincinnati is one of the best AM markets in the country.

150k per month isn't bad especially on 96.5 which has signal trouble in the downtown area. I bet there are a few FM stations in town that aren't making close to that. I wonder what 96Rock bills?

Funny, I've always thought Cincinnati is one of the worst AM markets, because the four best signals are all owned by Clear Channel. After those four, it's a pretty big dropoff, signal-wise.

I should have qualified this as you make a good point. I was thinking in terms of ratings. The AM's in town rate pretty well.
CC owns 3 good signals, to be sure. There are some quirks, though. Only the low dial, blowtorch, ND signal is flawless...

Oh I know this firsthand, living almost directly in the middle of WSAI's northeastern null. But WLW and WKRC are indeed flawless, and lately WCKY's nighttime deep fades are almost gone. Now if they could just get rid of Brother Stair too...

I thought Brother Stair was in jail? I can't believe He has enough followers to purchase that airtime as He has for years.

KRC is awfully stealthy.....

Brother Stair....I think he's been out of Jail for a few years now. You aught to look up Pete Peters. He is another "Sky Wave" king. The stuff he says is unbelievable.

Oh man, I almost forgot about Pastor Peter J Peters and his Scriptures for America nonsense! I remember stumbling across a broadcast of his while messing around with my first shortwave radio. I kept listening because it had such a 'train wreck' quality to it, he denies racism and antisemitism yet says some of the most racist and antisemitic things I've ever heard. Then he started showing up on WLW's Sunday morning religion block, and I was floored. Shortwave is one thing, but a 50k blowtorch in Ohio? I think WLW finally wised up and dropped him, but I was still curious how he got on in the first place. Pastor Butch Paugh, now there's another one of the "Sky Wave Crazies".

Pete closed the show with "don't borrow money from a jew banker" i about fell out of my chair! I've talked to the guy and he sounds so normal....

Here's a lyric from a Christian Rock song.... When performed live, the artist would put on a Jimmy Swaggert mask and sing...
"I found a new utensil in the Devils toolbox and heads are gonna roll, if Jesus rocks"
"...Its a worldly design, Gods music should be divine, try buying records like mine..." Guilty by Association, Steve Taylor.

Man, that took me back. I bought that album in 1985. Still have it.....on vinyl.

It was funny to see it live.....

Great Album. I've got it as well.... Sin for a Season and other great hits.

3-6 pm....I got nothin'. :(

I agree with the opening two posts here, and with stereolane's nod toward Phil Valentine [hello, jry].
Hanity's "success" has always baffled me – 'maybe getting a WSB gig while young is synonymous with having a "killer IRA" when one gets older! I just don't "get it" concernng his professional rise. He constantly interrupts callers and guests, and plagiarizes ideas and on-air shticks from other hosts without an ounce of credit – he HASN'T an original idea. He's as "plastic" as an empty 2-liter of 99-cent soda!
Unless I get the urge to laugh at the constantly-recycled circumstances of a former Bengals cheerleader having inappropriate relations with a kid/jock in high school, I usually abandon the radio and enjoy tunes via my modern media at 3PM!

How do you have the time to listen to all of those other shows and stations?

Does anyone remember this guy? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/W._V._Grant. Grant used to run the Cathedral of Compassion in St. Bernard, Ohio. I will never, ever forget walking past that church in St. Bernard with my Dad, years ago, and that fancy Cadillac parked in his parking space. We thought, "What a phony!" Grant was sentenced to jail for tax evasion. When I saw the report on him on ABC News(I think) he had a beautiful home, cars, you name it.

Our older shopping centers had Grant stores. One of the centers never upgraded the poured concrete entry with Grant's name in it or upgraded the door handles that had the name Grant's embossed in them. I periodically have business in that center and seeing those brings back memories.

IIRC WT Grants was one of the largest bankruptcies in it's time, around 1977? Of course there have been many that were much larger in the last 30+ years, but for it's time it was huge.
