Huh? Rick & Bubba Huntsville Squabble Effects Nashville?

This morning's news brings information that Rick & Bubba's syndicator has given Huntsville's Rocket the required 90-day notice the show would be leaving the station (for a CC H-ville home). What's odd is the claim that this move is being made as a group deal, and CC will now bring R&B to Nashville, Tuscaloosa, and Panama City. Huh? R&B have been back on in Nashville at 1510 since May. What's up?

Sounds like your source is bring you "old news".

It was actually pretty prominent in this morning's "Taylor on Radio-Info" newsletter. It had a few folks head-scratching in the 55 building, including Chris and me.

Wait a minute. I thought 1510 carried R and B as of now. Will be bringing R and B to Nashville??? Last time I checked R and B was already in Nashville. LOL Maybe I missed somethinng LOL

When I first heard these guys, I wondered what all the fuss was about. Two guys yakking for 4 hours. One funny story about them though. Once the comedian Ronny Shell from Gomer Pyle TV series fame was on R and B talking about his guest appearances on classic TV series's Andy Grifith show. Ronny was right in the middle of some cool stories when Rick kept interupting Shell to tell us that he used to rush home from school to watch Andy of Mayberry. I kept yelling at the radio. God, will you shut up!! LOL I guess many of us probably watched Mayberry when we got home from school. There he was going on and on how he would eat popcorn while going: Darn that ole Barney. LOL Shell kept going: Really? Well, how interesting. Did anyone hear that segment? They did shut up long enough for Shell to tell some cool stories about Jim Neighbors and Frank Sutton, who was also a Nashville native I understand. I do listen to these guys in the mornings now on 1510.

I think Sutton was from Clarksville.

Oh ok TY OleBud. He was from Clarksville. I also heard FRank Sutton had started his career as a broadcaster as well. He also was a Sergent in the US Army for awhile also. I think that is correct.

After Sutton graduated from East Nashville High School, he returned to Clarksville to become a radio disc jockey, then enlisted in the United States Army during World War II, and after basic training, was sent to the South Pacific, taking part in 14 assault landings.[1] TAKEN FROM WIKAPEDIA...SHAZAMMM !!

Love that Wikapedia. I like their radio station history also. They got information on past and present radios stations. I was looking around on their KMET FM album rock station listing. As I recall, they had past air-staffs listed.

Frank Sutton I guess will be forever remembered as Sgt Carter, but he did movies as well. I saw one of Sutton's movie appearances the other evening with Ernest Borgnine called "Marty" that aired on Turner Classic Movies.

Frank Sutton was a great actor, Gomer Pyle USMC, was one of my all-time favorite TV shows, he and Jim Nabors worked so good together. It's a shame he died so young, I never knew he wanted to be a DJ!

i'll have to agree on the appeal of these guys..same for me with larry the cable guy...R&B seems like an odd mix for wlac..not the type show you'd associate with the rest of their format..but as always..what do I know ???

I met Rick and Bubba when they were here in 2001 for "Fatfest." I didn't intend to go, but I "won" tickets and literally couldn't give them away! (It was at Amsouth/Starwood/whatever it was at the time.) I decided to go anyway since I got to go backstage, and we got fed! We got to eat pizza! I was given a photo of the two of them which Bubba autographed for me. They were short on pics so I immediately gave mine away to one of the other winners, since I didn't want it. I say I "met" them both, but I really only met Bubba. Rick never gave me the time of day. ::) Not that I really cared. I never listened to them anyway. I think they were on 104 the Core at the time, quite possibly one of the worst possible names for a radio station. You don't get the whole apple, just the core! ;D

I guess they should of named it 104 The Apple Core, huh.
That station had a contest to let the listeners name the station, i guess that explains it.

Fatfest, huh? Yeah, that makes perfect sense for this All-American healthy city. No wonder
Birmingham is one of the Top 3 fattest cities in America. You can thank R & B for subjecting
the gene pool to mediocrity and 'thinking it's cool' to not use proper grammer and 'yeah'
every other word and making Southerners look stupid. Put that on an alleged NEWS/talk
heritage station and you have a HUGE success story. Welcome to 1978. Hey man, yeah.

Why is anyone convinced this is the best fit or talent available for WLAC???? I could see
it if it was Crumulus doing this, but isn't CC smarter? Take me down, CR!

I remember that. Do you remember what the "prize" was? (Insert Don Pardo voice here!) "Absolutely nothing!" ;D Definitely a "you get what you pay for" type thing!

I remember them playing over the air (as part of a station promo) the call from the listener that suggested 104 the Core. ("How about 104 the Core?") It rhymed, and had a nice ring to it, but judging by the tone of the guy's voice, I thought he was joking! Wonder if he was disappointed when they changed formats (again?) a year later.

And furthermore, referring to a station at digital position 104.5 on the dial as just "104" anything is a little misleading.
