Hum on CBS--36

What would be causing a ground hum on the CBS nework news Starguide channel 36? The auxillary channels are all fine. Satellite feed is also cutting out, feeding back and going silent. I'm in Central Indiana. Anyone else having the problem?

36 and 39 are working beautifully. EbNo sucks though...we have like 9-10dB. Another starguide on the same dish has 15dB of premiere's carrier.
______________

That's pretty much par for the WW1 StarGuide II's. I've got 6 receivers off my dish, and all are 15's except the WW1, which is 11.
______________

The channel 36 problem only surfaced this week. (Wednesday morning) and it's not a constant hum. (Comes and goes.) The signal loss is consistant. We've got those big hummin' dishes, too.

Actually, I was only commenting on the EbNo readings as being normal.

You mention that the satellite feed is also cutting out. Are you seeing the alarm lights come on or drops in your receive strength or only hearing audio drop outs? The first two could be a problem with the LNB or alignment. All three could result from a failing power supply in the StarGuide, and the latter could be a bad audio card in the StarGuide.

If you haven't done so already, make up a test cable consisting of a DB-9 connector and some alligator clips. Then disconnect everything from that receiver except for the power and dish connection. Test the audio coming out of the card with the cable and a pair of headphones or battery powered amp, to ensure you don't have a ground loop or problem downstream from the StarGuide. If the audio still has faults, the problem resides in the StarGuide. If it's clean, you need to look at what's between the StarGuide and your equipment.
______________

Are the major networks (Jones/WW1/Premiere/etc) on the same bird?
______________

> Yes.

Then I guess it's just WW1 east that has a bad signal. I swapped cables again for fun and got an extra 0.5dB of signal but the EbNo is still only 10.5-11dB.
______________

I've never seen it higher than that. Are you reading that on a SGII or SGIII?
