Humorous radio stories

Art, it was Guy Sharpe who, on a weather report, said "cold mare's ass" instead of cold air mass. He retold that one at the GAB Broadcaster's Hall of Fame luncheon several years ago. He was an original. Hey is Hal Suit (Channel 2) still alive?
Just a little bit of searching around revealed that Hal Suit passed away 11/20/94; I'd forgotten that he ran for Governor in 1970.

My favorite Atlanta radio story is the time the drug deal went over the air at WSB AM...and my favorite TV story, that I actually saw, was during the construction of one of the new Action News sets back in the 70's, I think. During a Johnny Beckman forecast, part of the new set collapsed off-camera. He calmly looked over and said "What the hell was that?". In those days, you didn't say "hell" on the air. The switchboard lit up with tons of complaints. I still wish Johnny were on the air.

I want to hear about the drug deal over WSB...

The drug deal on WSB. OK. 3pm on a weekday afternoon, Chief Engineer C.H. Sutton is on duty. NBC top of the hour news is on, live and no one is paying much attention to it. We are rolling reel to reel tape on it, of course, as we are with Mutual's top of the hour, which is not airing.

In the middle of a sentence, the newscaster is interrupted with what is obviously a long distance phone call. There is a high pitched whine and one man is making small talk with another and gets around to saying, "I got somethin' you want." "Really?" "Some really good Columbian." This goes on for about 30 seconds and then NBC news returns without an explanation.

There is a tape of this incident...I have a copy ;D

If you want to hear the funniest radio story ever, you should find a way to hear WROQ-Charlotte/Larry Sprinkle's story of calling the weekend/night jock (WORKING THE BOARD WHILE COMPANY PARTY HAPPENS) regarding "procedures" of "RETRACTIBLE TOWERS AFTER LIGHTNING STRIKES!"
