Hurricane blows away from WSAR

Somebody's listening! I have worked there twice & the shows have callers. Once on the law program (which aired early on a Tuesday afternoon) we once got 14 calls! The station serves a niche audience & that niche is the population of Fall River.

I worked there and I know some calls come in. But not many. They should utilize that 5,000 WATT signal and program to everybody within a 25 mile radius. Forgetting about all the other towns they reach other than Fall River is just hurting themselves. They could be doing so much better with the right programming and the right marketing. I guess they don't care.

Those 25 miles would include Providence & Providence has too many stations as it is, especially rimshotters. Remember WSAR's pattern goes dominantly southeast but not too restrictively. So yes, WSAR should serve more than Fall River & it does. With WPEP sadly gone it also gets in to Taunton & there is "Talking Taunton" on Thursday afternoon hosted by George Colajezzi who also does "Mid Morning Bristol County." But yes, the station is primarily of interest to those in Fall River, Somerset, Swansea, maybe Tiverton, Westport & Freetown. By the time you reach Dartmouth, that's WBSM's territory.

My question is: for the format you're talking about, why specifically WSAR & why ONLY WSAR? Why not one of the underutilized Providence stations?

I was just picking one station that in my opinion needs a complete change. Hurricane Herren leaving caused another void in a station that already needed help. So that's the only reason I've been talking about WSAR. However you are right. Other stations could use some help as well. If I had to pick between a Providence station and a Fall River station to help, I would obviously pick Providence since it's a larger market.

Good riddance! He was a non personality daddy prolly purchased the time anyway.

If I only had the money buy that dump, I would do morning drive myself and give Fall River a heart attack with the programming I would air. I'm just so tired of bland mediocre radio. I would just let loose and it would be something that people would no doubt talk about. How much would that heap of garbage cost me to purchase?

If you're serious about doing great programming let me know. I am a developer who will be going live with a stable online media presence within 2 weeks, I am just finishing some load testing.

My goal is to create an online community for the Southcoast that is honest and doesn't have an agenda. I'm looking for people to host programs, contribute writing, etc....

I am NOT looking for crazies ala Herren, Rodriguez, etc.... If anyone is interested please get in touch.

I don't think an online idea will compete with broadcast at this point, but I think that there is enough of a niche that some people will listen if it's good and available at the right time slot. There isn't really a 'morning drive' because most people are in their cars at that time, but during work hours and after evening drive you may be able to get some listeners.

I know I listen to online radio (WTKK and sometimes WSAR) at work.

The one thing I have going for me is that I own all the servers and studio and can handle all the programming as well, so there is no overhead.

Yeah I saw the news report on the ABC6 website this morning. They always seem to go easy on him though. Nothing even happened when that chick from WSAR went after him with some lawsuit. He must have some good lawyers. In this country that is all it takes to escape conviction. Just look at the OJ Simpson trial for proof of that. Good lawyers and a dopey jury.

FRonline...
You are putting together a sort of web station? Most of the web show services get you sponsors and then send you $$ when the listenership is high. What's your plan, and what kind of hosts/subjects are you looking for?

I love online radio. As a teen I would dream of my parents getting a big satellite dish for our yard so I could somehow pickup distant radio stations. A neighbor down the street had a dish and I would look at that thing with envy whenever I would drive past their house. Then when I worked at WSAR I would go into the engineering room and fool around with the satellite dish after hours. For some reason WNEW FM New York was a common station that came in on it. Also WCBS FM and WNBC as well. I got off work at Midnight, but there were a few times I would stay there until 2 or 3 AM just to listen to distant stations on that dish. I loved doing that.

Of course these days all you need is a computer to hear radio stations all over the world. I would have literally never left the house if such a thing were possible when I was growing up. We are all amazingly fortunate to have that technology at out fingertip these days. Don't take it for granted. It's an awesome thing. Especially for people in this business.

With that being said...... with the internet each one of us now has the ability to be our own radio station and be our own boss. We can have total creative control over what we want to do. So I'm not sure of what the advantage would be in hooking up with somebody else who is starting an on air presence. I mean... if you can do it all yourself than why do you need a middleman? What is this person offering you that you can't do on your own. That is my question. Are they offering you a regular paycheck (or) will you be working for free? Hell..... I can do all this on my own for FREE. lol So I guess my question is inline with MissAM. What is the plan?
