I Am Loving WASL-SL 100

Awesome thread, Nice to see a fight that I'm not involved in. I even plan on keeping it that way.

I will vouch for Meep, He knows what he is talking about (as he has told me in the past)

I wish I could hear SL-100 from South-West Tennessee, but I guess that I'll have to live off of 92.3.

Roger, from what I hear you're doing a great Job with SL, keep up the good work.
 
I've had some thoughts about some of the ads on WASL/WTRO recently. I like a lot of the music, but it seems like they're depending too much on network ads for junk like dial a psycho (er..psychic ::) ) services and other questionable junk where they keep repeating the toll free number, keep repeating the toll free number, KEEP REPEATING THE TOLL FREE NUMBER!!! ::) I think they've hit an all time low though with ads for an "adult gift shop" in the MO bootheel. :p

One thing you can bet they won't advertise though: ANY kind of Coca Cola product. :D
 
You are correct...they'll never accept any Coca Cola Agancy dollars.

One step lower than the "Adult Bookstore" ad - may be the one for a bakery.

It seems a little racist to me, but in it there are ladies trying to sound like "sistas" talking about another lady's baby. They discuss how ugly the baby is, and when the "Pastor" (an obvious attempt at sounding like a black minister-(if not actually an african-american) walks up, they realize the "baby" looks like the Pastor.

So, basically, in the end, we have several elements (or assumed elements) in this spot. Racism, Gossip, Adultery, Blasphemy, Unwed Motherhood, and probably more if I could bare to listen to it again.

I cannot believe someone in the Black/African American Community hasn't complained about it. I was offended by it and I am as caucasian as it gets.
I am also not usually sensitive to things of this nature...this is just waaay overboard.

I believe they are selling cookies...but the actual product and client take a back seat. It usually plays around lunchtime it seems. They say advertising is so that you'll remember, and if they accomplish that...that's all they want. Well, I remember...and even if I were in the market for cookies from a bakery...I would remember NOT to get them from wherever this one is because of that ignorant spot.
If it were, in fact, satire only-some people might find it amusing. (Ala a Saturday Night Live spoof)
The fact that it's a real commercial on a small West Tennessee radio station is what makes it nearly unbelievable.

Too bad...because I really like the music on SL-100.
 
Naw.....it's more like Southern women. The ones who stand in the middle of the church talking about everyone. Sorry to offend ya but the client digs it and sells a whole buncha cookies. I do appreciate you for keeping up with the Saga of Reverend Hopgood, who by the way, is Irish. We'll go easy one the next one but you know....the Pasta likes his cookies! :-*

Maybe you are just talking to people that are telling you what you want to hear, but out here in the real world, people don't like it.

Notice, if you will, that I didn't say anything negative about production value or the quality of the spot itself. As I said...If it were presented as strictly satire, I'm sure people could and would appreciate the humor (with which I'm certain it was intended)

I'm saying that it is offensive. Your response indicates that rather than to think about that, you choose to sarcastically jump to its defense and claim that it's selling mucho cookies! Very typical of you as I recall your past posts in defense of WASL.

Maybe they ARE selling a lot of cookies. But the question I have for you may be....How many cookies are you selling to African American customers? Or...maybe the bakery is kind of going for the KKK Cookie market...

(Yes...this post, too, is laced with sarcasm...can you spot it?)

But seriously...learn to deal with some constructive criticism...you are really too old to be responding like a child if someone says something negative about WASL. If you'll bother to notice...most often, if I DO say something negative it is followed by or led by something positive.

A friend of mine is heavily involved with the NAACP in West Tennessee. Why don't I get him to give it a listen and we'll see what he thinks about it?
 
I just dig arguing with you. Seems it works! That's a question for the client. And of course I'll defend WASL, it's the redneck in me.

I also think that too many people walk around with their fingers crossed hoping that they'll be offended and looking for a reason to stir up crap. We truly don't aim to offend anyone but if we do, that radio has an off button. I'd rather hear Pastor Hopgood than some heavy breathing tramp selling a party at a nightclub but that's my personal opinion.

Maybe the next spot will be normal...then again, maybe not?

I for one, have been more than a little appreciative of the occasional heavy breathing tramp at times in my life.
The world needs them and they have their place in it.

I hope the customer sells enough cookies to pay the legal fees, and that the station has all their retainers current and up to date.

Don't know that the good Reverend Hopgood will always be able to "pray" his way out of everything.
 
If all you people liked SL 100 so much, then you would do an aircheck and trade with me.
 
I don't mean to sound dumb, but who is SL-100? What market is this station in?
 
Well, I don't recall them claiming to reach all that, but they did get more excited then needed when they were granted a power increase a few years ago. The original goal was to get into the Jackson, TN market, and I don't think that worked.
