I can't believe its been one year already

Pirate Cat Radio didn't get a broadcast license.

The guy who runs it is helping a small noncomm down the shore from SF, and it's not his station. He's just the OM, basically...he is not the licensee.

Allan Weiner did not get an LPFM license. He waited it out some years, and finally got a local AM license, and eventually, his SW operation (WBCQ) and another FM license (WBCQ-FM, which he's LMAing to another local commercial operator).

The difference here? The LPFM application process does specifically ask about unlicensed operation in the applicants' past.

Well, what do you know...Pirate Cat Radio's Daniel Roberts ("Monkey Man") listed himself as Pescardero Public Radio Service's president in the most recent ownership report:

http://licensing.fcc.gov/cgi-bin/ws...4233&Service=FM&Form_id=324&Facility_id=89081

The station was headed up by Celeste Worden, who is still listened as secretary. The FCC did not award the license to Roberts or Pirate Cat Radio, but I'm wondering if the FCC has put two and two together here... Roberts' involvement in KPDO's operations hasn't exactly been secret, and it's been in the SF papers...

When I think of all the pirate stations on 87.9 now and even the pirate station 87.7 I think he was the first.

The 107.7 in Brattleboro is somehow related to the former "radio free Brattleboro" pirate operation up there.
I don't recall the exact connection, but there is one.

@FCCman I heard there was a pirate out of Westford, MA that used 87.9 in the 90's but The Wave was the first station to use 87.9 that attracted a lot of attention. It wasn't until a few years later that Hot 97 moved down to the 87.7 frequency. The Wave has been around in one form or another for over 10 years. It started out as a Top-40 station on 88.5 F :-[M and over time evolved into its current format. After that it moved to 90.5 where it stayed for a few years, and finally it landed on 87.9 where it stayed until the close down in January of last year. Now we broadcast (legally) online at: http://www.879thewave.webs.com

I think some of the RFB folks are on 107.7's board, though they don't run the thing per se...that may be why the FCC was OK with it.

Is there anyone out there who wants to put a pirate station back on 87.9 playing oldies like the Boxford guy did, No one is playing 60s anymore.

@FCCman Believe me if we could we would. We miss more then anything being on the FM dial. However we don't want to take the risk in loosing any license that becomes available. Believe me there is a lot going on behind the scenes at the station to return to the air "legally" this time. Please bare with us and feel free to stream us online at: http://www.879thewave.webs.com. Thanks for listening!
