I finally have HD Radio in my dash!

I installed a JVC KD-HDR1 yesterday in my car and it works great! I had no problem holding HD channels more than 40 miles from downtown Chicago. 8)

No way. It's a lie. You're just a corporate Shill. The radios don't work and the programming sucks. By the way, don't drive over 5 MPH. You'll get that nasty doppler shift which will runin everything. Did I mention it's a carny shill? :)

SHHHHH! Don't let anybody find out that HD actually works. The shock may well kill 'em!

(Congratulations. Do us a favor please, and tell us situations where HD radio meets or exceeds your expectations, AND where it falls short.)

I suspect that 40 mile range, too, based on reception reports I have heard. JVC ain't no Pioneer - and without some good RF circuitry, and even assuming a 31 inch whip, he may be well outside the countours required for HD reception. It is possible he has line of site to the antennas, and exceptionally good propagation. But without a serious deep fringe antenna, which doesn't fit on a car, that type of range is extraordinary.

How's the AM HD reception on the thing? Just curious how far out you get AM HD stations.

An engineer in Chapel Hill said he gets HD signals from the Raleigh/Durham/Chapel Hill area 60 miles out routinely. Of course anyone familiar with North Carolina knows that east of Raleigh, the state is pretty damn flat (the mountains are all in the western part of the state. I would be shocked at reliable HD from 60 miles away in a moving car in my "neck of the woods".)

The AM reception was reliable about 30 miles out from a station while in motion. After that, it was falling back to analog.

It actually was the FM that made it past the 40 mile mark. 8)

My AM experience in the car:

5kw KPRC 950 -- Reliable to 30 miles
50kw WOAI 1200 -- Reliable to 80+ miles
