I suspect that 40 mile range, too, based on reception reports I have heard. JVC ain't no Pioneer - and without some good RF circuitry, and even assuming a 31 inch whip, he may be well outside the countours required for HD reception. It is possible he has line of site to the antennas, and exceptionally good propagation. But without a serious deep fringe antenna, which doesn't fit on a car, that type of range is extraordinary.Mike Walker said:SHHHHH! Don't let anybody find out that HD actually works. The shock may well kill 'em!
(Congratulations. Do us a favor please, and tell us situations where HD radio meets or exceeds your expectations, AND where it falls short.)

The AM reception was reliable about 30 miles out from a station while in motion. After that, it was falling back to analog.
It actually was the FM that made it past the 40 mile mark. 8)
