I Need A Radio Job

I hate to be a stickler, but Wayne, you were presented with a job OPPORTUNITY. Dennis did not OFFER you the job. He said if you're interested to send down a tape and resume.

There...now I'm done!

But I still consider it an offer...all things accepted...it is more an opp than an offer....that is how I take it...and OFFER

Ok....I will admit...I do take certain things differently than some others and this is one of those things...

Wayne

PS: And to be honest w/ you I am interested in the job...but with no car...I have no way of taking it at the present time anyhow...so to me it is an offer....now with transportation...it would be an opportunity

Wayne, if you are truly interested in the job opportunity, why not send a package. If you get the job, you could buy a car! Find a friend to take you to the interview. Rent a car for the day.

Those who show some sort of sacrifice and ingenuity go places. Those who wait for it to come to them will always be waiting.

Figure out how to make it happen!

Thanks, 409. I don't want anyone to get the wrong idea. The job is available and, believe it or not, I've had resumes coming in from Atlanta, Minneapolis/St. Paul, Miami, Buffalo, Dallas, Chicago and Norfolk/Virginia Beach, among others. All that for a little bitty job in Podunk. The money in those markets has to be good, but the security must be a little iffy.

Well,

Things just fell thru on a car...I will more than likely have one in about two weeks time...it will be fully paid off, and the best part is they are fixing it for me...so that when it is paid..no problems should arise

So, the only problem is...I don't have an aircheck unless you want me to fake something....but I do have a resume....

And I could send that one...

Well, right now that's not our main concern. We're in the process of going from Simian to Scott (Thank God!). Maybe, after that, we'll get back to finding a morning co-host.

We use Simian at my stations in Butler, Pennsylvania. What kind of problems were you having?

Wayne, have you communicated directly with crossman? You should, if you haven't. Learn about his station and what his needs are .. and don't do it on this message board. Be more business-like and try to communicate with him directly. Once you know his needs, you can decide if it fits what you can do!

Thanks for the advice XTalker, I will go and find his number to the station and call him up Monday or something...b/c I have work for the next 7 days then have a 3 day weekend...so I dunno what I'll be able to do about that...

Good advice XTalker. Wayne, you need to be proactive if you intend to improve your situation. Don't wait for the ads to appear in the paper or in the trades. Send resumes and airchecks out to local stations close to you. Then follow up with phone calls the following week. Then follow up about once a month. BE PERSISTENT!!! About 85 percent of my own radio work was secured through sending unsolicited airchecks.

kenhawk1160 is right. Most jobs in radio are filled long before the ad appears in the trades! And, don't be afraid to take a job "beneath you". You can always climb the ladder while you are gaining experience.

Well,

There in lies the problem...all I have is a resume...no aircheck b/c all I ever did during my era working in a Comm. Station was a board op, and in my internet radio days I believe if I am not mistaken all I have is a few show clips and maybe one sim race broadcast...but I really don't think those would be good for an aircheck...now correct me if I am wrong in saying that...

Wayne

So, here's what you do, Wayne. Call the guy, ask his what he is looking for. He has already told you it is back burner because of a digital audio system change. That will give you time to put together an air-check. Do you have Cool Edit or Audition? Can I assume you did your internert show from your home. Surely, you can produce some simulated on air performance to send.

Look, he is a small station, looking for someone to co-host and work hard. It is a great foot in the doot and would be good experience. Go for it. Do what it takes to get it! Heck, you might even like it! If not, build your experience and keep looking!

Good luck. Enough ot the excuses!

The little station yall are talking about has a bunch of potential. I worked there years ago when it probably didn't have as much potential. It was my last paying job in "real radio" before I started being an "adult." *sigh* ??? ??? ???

Incidentally, I also downloaded Cool Edit for free off the internet the other night myself and recorded some voice and burned a cd (for the first time ever!), so it can be done Wayne *shakes bony finger of indignation, makes tsk tsk motion* ;D

I know it can be done...I have Audition 1.5 on my PC, and it wasnt a show X, it was a station...but I did try my damndest to produce a show..but with all my commitments, I never had the time to produce a fully syndicatable show, and it held me back...but I will find one of my old 10 min clips and try to put something together....and hey...you are right, maybe something will fall thru, but the good part to it all is...if I get it...I can quit my retail gig...b/c the four hour trip will be eonugh in itself...lol

Thanks,
Wayne

Wayne:

A good aircheck should be no longer than five minutes of scoped material. Three minutes is good. Basically, what most managers look for is the ability to be live on the air and some production. So if you have some of your DJ or news work, coupled with a commercial or promo you produced yourself, that's pretty much all you need. Less is more!

And for goodness sakes, don't let roadblocks impede your progress! Where there's a will, there's a way! My former managers told me that I'm at my best when I hit a roadblock. Why? Because you're forced to come up with a solution, and quickly. You can do this!

Wayne, I got your e-mail, but I'm a little confused. I couldn't open your aircheck at all, and I had to go through an act of Congress to try and get your resume open, and still couldn't do it. If there's another way you can e-mail it to me, please try. Or if you want to snail mail it, that's okay, too. There has to be an easier way to get an aircheck.

Wayne,
Call Bill at SIC and ask if you can come in and use the production board to do a sim show. You already know the equipment so that should be a breeze. I got one of my best gigs ever using an air check I produced like this. If you and Bill are on good terms he'll probabley go for it. Good luck,
Benie

Ok,

Well, I can try and resend the email....b/c I had an mp3 aircheck in there, and a .doc resume in there...so it should have opened just fine....but I will try and resend it...and one question for you spacetrucker, when you say a sim show...do you mean a full show or just a few tidbits with a wee bit of music....

Please be specific,
Wayne
