I NO LONGER GET "THE POINT"

It was nice to see the PD of a station taking time to respond to a rumour thread. It looks like his early defensiveness has turned into a genuine openess to discuss his product.

I don't know if DJKelton worked at the station or not. Only Zeb knows that. But the fact that his comments were echoed by so many other people leads me to believe that he is on the right track with somethings. As they say in Church on Sundays, messengers come in many forms. They seem to be listening and making some of the changes that Dennis suggested in earlier threads.

In terms of my comparison of KBCO to WNCS being ludicrous, I did that on the advice of Leba. Leba seemed to think the Point sounded better. I would be interested in what Leba has to say about Zeb's response. Leba do you still think it is a good idea or is it ludicrous?

I have to admit I bragged to my wife that a real radio PD thought his station didn't sound as good as the one in Denver. It is nice to be right. She just told me to go rake the yard. :)

Anyway, if I wanted to get into the radio business, how do I go about becoming a PD? Maybe I could go to work at the Point since Zeb and I appear to be on the same wavelength (pardon the pun). Would it be worth moving from Maine to Burlington to get a radio job?

I suppose but don't you think it is a little sad, a little Busch League, that a PD would take the time to respond to a negative posting on a message board? I don't know. I cringe when I see stuff like that. Focus on your station...don't worry what the radio geeks are saying about you.

Dude -
you're a little off - it's NATIONWIDE now... If you're gonna slam someone - can you do it correctly? That changed in February...

Wow guys - quite frankly - I am Shocked at the way you treat fellow radio folk. What is wrong with you? Do you honestly feel that you have to belittle a person because you don't like the radio station they work for or you don't like that way that person runs said radio station? How many of you know Zeb? You read about him defending himself and generate an opinion? Perhaps this is not the forum that I thought it was. I am very disappointed in you guys...

RVG tell it sister! I concur… thanks for telling the congregation when the congregation needs to hear. There’s so few of us left anymore, we need to stick together. We don’t have to be like the last few dinosaurs after the asteroid hit and eat each other alive.

Radio people are so funny. I guess the constant trauma of this job either leaves you strong or bitter.

And Zeb there’s no shame in engaging a detractor just like there’s no glory in remaining silent.

This concludes my 2 cents

;D ;D ;D

Rumour is their sales staff is really driving revenue. At the end of the day that is what really matters.

Derspite whatever else has been written about Zeb here, he has put together a station that is inherently sellable.

Maybe we put too much on a PD's plate. If they have a station that makes money, the PD must be doing something right.

Here's something you don't see everyday, a radio promotion built around the art of the Haiku.

The Point and some tea company are promoting Haiku.

Wow....makes the cash call seem trivial.. I need to call the folks and let them know I'm finally using that Poetry class they didn't want me to take in 86'.

Have to say that overall the "non-radio" listeners seem to have a better feel for The Point than the "Radio Gurus". It sure strikes me that it is the listeners who are making constructive recommendations on improvement .... and then the "Radio Gurus" who seem to want to become all defensive. Why is that??

I too, listened to other stations, including those that Lebba had recommended and there is really no comparison. The other stations just sound better - more exciting/compelling - DJ's seem to be more intune and engaged .... the commercials and station production are more in "lock and key" with the listeners and the overall quality is there. I don't think that was very good advise to compare these stations -- but then again, I don't think Lebba is a Program Manager - so I'll give him a pass!

I understand that the "budgets" may be difficult - and on today's economic field getting more difficult- but I really do think that the music selection, the jock preparation and funny as it seems, the commercials are well within the control of those in charge. (am I wrong on this??)

I would have to agree that the Point is probably one of the easier stations for a radio seller to sell. It's been around for soooo long -- and even if it is not as good as it was a couple years ago --- just the length of time that its been here would seem to make it a station that someone who buys radio would want to buy - so I'm guessing it continues to attract many customers by the nature of its format. (Although I am now listening to Star and WCLX most of the time now - where a couple of years ago I only listened to the Point - which I guess doesn't bode well for advertising results.

I too have only posted on this post (couldn't help myself) -- like Dennis Kelton have never worked in Radio and am a bit hesitant to give my opinions -- figuring I'll only be attacked for trying to make a product better.

Oh well -- thanks for "listening"
