I Pose This Question

GEORGE GIMARC

I would love to see George Gimarc get the job. Unfortunately, he expertise is in real alternative music, not the nu metal crap that the EDGE now plays.

Another vote for George Gimarc, maybe put in Jeff K as his MD, as they had their best successes at KDGE

George has the insight and the background. Along with his friend and co-writer of books, Pat Reeder, the two of them could give DFW a definitive station of success. The drawback,George ( like most of us) has no love for the way Corporations have controlled stations. George's ideas wouldn't balance with the so called "Corporate research". His ideas like most good PD's and on air talent, would get watered down and it would come out as the same old quagmire its currently in.Then the arguments here and elsewhere would suggest George doesn't have it anymore, which is pure crap. There are many "Georges" out there, out of radio voluntarily,or involuntarily who could make an impact in the market. The corps know this, but they are not willing to pay,as long as they can sell spots, and increase that load, what does it matter to them?

Ah yes, Corporate radio has gone to the dogs. See spots run?

FCC should stand for "F[explicit] Consolidated Crap."

Who would you place as PD and/or MD of The Edge?

not you :D

No offense, but I wouldn't want the job. I got out of broadcasting when a bunch of suits started telling me what they wanted to hear and not what the average listener did.

If I had my choice, I would place George as PD and JeffK as MD.

Unfortunatley, alternative rock isn't what it used to be, it has morphed into this new active rock that radio stations just die for. I also believe that with the right mix of old with new, The Edge would be a better station. Yet, Duane nor anyone else at that corporate monkey, has ever gotten that through there heads.

You have to have insight into the industry to understand that alternative didn't just start with Nirvana, it bands like the Sex Pistols, Dead Kennedys, Anarchy in UK, and even The Police.

I don't know much about George as a program director, but he was a great DJ when the Edge WAS new and entertaining. I don't even listen to it anymore.

That sums it up! "I don't listen anymore”. How many times can that be applied to any station? George was an innovator. In College he was an INNOVATOR with his "New Wave” show. Later on he would go to the UK and actually research groups, and artists that comprised this "Second British Invasion”. How many PD's have come close to that or MD's?
He has written books on the subject and he has never rested on his laurels and become complacent. He was always looking for something new with respect towards the old. That is a PD folks. The Edge now is more of a BLUNT object. It has allowed itself to get watered down, a repetitive short play list, and handed over to an ad agency/sales mentality. It's ratings are laughable compared to what they were when the format started. Why does it still have "some" listeners? What’s the alternative? Who is their competition? Answer: NONE. Please don't tell me the Bone, KZPS and the Mix are in the same category. Perhaps in Arbitron land, but not in reality. Face it. As long as we have consultants, ad agencies, people with business degrees from the 80's,and minimal talent, that shun from being daring, innovative, creative, then expect the same narcolepsy radio format for a longer time to come. Radio is in a tailspin folks, and apparently it needs a hard crash in order to wake up.

The question is also this.

Will radio recognize it is in a tail-spin ever and correct itself?

I am in the office right now and what am I listening to? A station
on ITunes.......... :)

I think radio has lost a LOT of market share to the 'Net, to Ipods, etc......
I can still listen to The Oasis if I want to, but it is on-line. So, another listener
isn't listening to a "real" radio now.............how about those ratings ??? :)

Don't take this one seriously ... but ME!

I've listened to that station for years and have always had a plethora of ideas of what to do with it. I'd pop most, if not all of the air staff and get some people with passion for the music in there to jock. I would stop being a "New music" station with a huge hard on for Green Day and Nirvana. That station was greatness years ago and has become a shell of its oldself, just like the Eagle did before we lost that station.
