I went to the dentist

But the point is: this isn't about target audiences, or what people grew up with, or what makes money. This is about having something very unpleasant forced on me in a very stressful sitation that only makes it worse.

If I went to the dentist and they were playing the Carpenters or Barry Manilow, I'd say something very unpleasant was being forced on me, and I might be tempted to leave

Soft AC doesn't reduce my stress level - it just makes me want to vomit

How are they supposed to please everybody?
I sort of see your point.

"If I went to the dentist and they were playing the Carpenters or Barry Manilow, I'd say something very unpleasant was being forced on me, and I might be tempted to leave."

I don't know, I'd much rather be a captive audience to Karen and Richard, or to Barry, than have to sit through yet another round of Adele being shoved down my throat!

But then, that's also why MP2 compression, CD recorders (and pocket CD players) and earphones were invented.

To each his own. My library now stretches from Adele to Zeppelin. When is "I'll Be Waiting" going to hit the air?

I was wandering through radio-info and happened upon this thread. I may not stop laughing for an hour.

Rare (IMHO) is the written, compiled missive on any radio-oriented website that brings together dentistry, vietnamese food, the Dollar Store and whether the Carpenters are appropriate listening therein.

For the benefit of v-chimp, I offer the following selection: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e8-sMJZTYf0

Note that it can be evaluated re: (1) patient care, and (2) musical aesthetics.

My .02, your mileage may vary.

I went to the dentist to get my teeth cleaning two months ago and they had the Sirius/XM's 80s channel running in the background. I do not find it distracting because I enjoy listening to 80s music. That was my first time hearing the dentist office having Sirius XM on all the time, my previous visits had local Magic 93 on.

The OP seems to be getting cranky in his dotage, rather like me.

What I hate is that when there's something good on it's not loud enough.

When they have the TV on, though, in the room where they actually work on me (as opposed to the waiting room), I make them change it from Fox News to almost anything else. I can only tolerate just so much pain and torment at a time.
