I101 Tweaking Playlist Toward AC

87.7 is alternative and it's doing quite well

What data do you base that conclusion on?

Wishful thinking.

I hope they start to do better so they can continue to exist, otherwise it's back to MP3's and webcasts for new Rock.

What data do you base that conclusion on?

Based on the garbage signal, horrible dial position, and brief time the station has been on the air, I'd say a 2 share is damn good.
K-Hits has only been able to muster a 2 share with a big-time morning show, massive ad campaign, excellent dial position, and monster signal.

87.7's TSL is excellent. They've found their P1s. Now, they will need to build cume. There's no reason the station can't reach a 2.5 share or better once they begin to layer on some P2 & P3 listeners.

Clear Channel missed a golden opportunity for 95.5, in my view. Instead of reaching a young well-educated audience with purchasing power, they'll be settling for a 2 share consisting largely of low-income Hispanics and will be seen as the afterthought to WOJO. Great strategy!!! Oh well, it's all for the better. Any Clear Channel alt rocker would've been the equivalent of audio wallpaper. The stationality on 87.7 is solid. The station has exceeded my expectations.

This station doesn't need to bill the same amount as the big corporate FM sticks to be profitable, either. If they bill $5 mill a year, they'll make money.

In the last hour I heard Katy Perry "Teenage Dream," Colbie Caillat "Bubbly" and now Bruno Marz "Just The Way You Are."

I guess this means happy trails to Sir Mix-A-Lot and Wreckx-N-Effect? Having those artists on this playlist would be like oil and water. Then again, this is Merlin, the radio company that brought you "FM News."

With only online as my reference, it's nice to see they've cleaned up their online feed however it's a bit bright and harsh at times.

There were 2 hits call Show Me Love in the 90's.

Robin S. - Show Me Love
Robyn - Show Me Love

Also, there were two songs titled "Hold On" released in the 90's - both in 1990, to be exact... I don't think i101 played either, but they did play other En Vogue selections...

The only other "Hold On" I can think of is from Jamie Walters (lead singer of the Heights), which came out in 1995.

The August PPM was released yesterday - and it showed i101 actually broke a 1.0 rating for the first time since Merlin took ownership of the station! Now, if they don't revamp their original 90's playlist, they'd better lower their expectations for the next PPM...

So apparently i101 has kept its promise of working 90's tracks back into the playlist. Yet they're basically just alternating between a 90's song and a track from today for the most part. I've seen "Gen-X" stations with 90's-based playlists fall by the wayside, so I guess the only reason why Merlin's being a 90's/CHR hybrid is that it's the only way a 90's format can survive.
