I93 finds a decent morning show and they could give their competition a run for it's money...
...and where might they look??? IMHO this is only one place of many where the industry has choked itself until it can almost no longer breathe. I'm specifically referring to air talent, NEW air talent, air talent that isn't 45+ and/or has not been recycled already. The industry has eliminated almost all the places and positions where air talent used to be developed. Dave Kraddick is too old? Who (that has a clue or has any experience) are you going replace him with that isn't as old or almost as old as he is? Ryan Seacrest??? There's only one of him! (per market, anyway) Where are they going to be coming from? The answer, my friends, is: They are NOT going to be coming... from ANYWHERE!
When folks ask me what I do, I tell them, "I'm in the entertainment business." Well, sadly, this business just isn't very entertaining anymore... not to the masses, anyway. Yes, there are certain niches that are filled here and there but there just isn't any programming that reaches through the radio, grabs people by the throat and screams, "LISTEN TO ME!!!" The folks that knew how to do that are gone now and the people they were supposed to teach to replace them... their jobs were sacrificed in the name of profit. They were not there to be taught how to do it... and now, the art is lost. It doesn't exist anymore.
This rant has been a long time coming, only because it is so very frustrating to have to look at what used to be an incredibly exciting and fun business/career/industry and know that it is no longer like that and will never be that way again. I have avoided it for quite a while but there are only a few buttons you can push that will set me off and 'jeff' & 'idig' pushed one of the biggest ones. The worst part about the rant is: I (we) can rant all we want. It's not going to change anything. The damage has been done and unfortunately, there's no undoing it.
Rant concluded,
carry on (like nothing else is wrong).
Move along...
nothing to see here.
